Quick Question: Venice to Florence leaving from Mestre. Is this OK?

Well I know it is OK, but how much extra time should I leave for getting to Mestre from the SL station? Thanks. I am trying to make reservations now since we are traveling with 4 people and it is Easter week.

C'mon I know you are out there. Hasn't someone left from Mestre that can tell me what time I should leave Locanda Orseolo in Venice to arrive at Mestre for an 8:44 train? Thanks.

It is a short (20 minutes max) train ride from Mestre to Venice SL... and trains run pretty frequently in the morning.

I'd give myself an hour though. I don't like close shaves and having to run through stations!!

It seems to me the trains run from Santa Lucia through Mestre and then on to whatever destination. Is there a particular reason you need to leave from Mestre rather than Santa Lucia?

Suki is correct: the 8:44 Eurostar to Florence doesn't come from S. Lucia (it comes from Treviso). The bahn.de web site has an 8:16 train from S. Lucia that connects with the 8:44 departure, and if you want to allow more time for the connections, you can leave at 8:14, 8:09, or 8:02.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like there are plenty of options to connect to the Eurostar to Florence. My choices are the 8:44 from Mestre which is a direct train or a 7:22 from S Lucia that stops in Bologna. I think we'll go for the 8:44.

Suki,
When you get back, would you mind posting how long it took to travel from Locanda Orseolo to the S.L. station? We are also catching the 8:44 train from Mestre to Florence, and with 2 kids in tow, wanted to make sure we allowed enough time to leave the hotel & catch our Mestre train. Thanks!

traveladventurer, we are just back from our trip. The Locanda Orseolo was easily the best hotel of our vist and really one of the best hotel experiences I ever had. The service was personal and every comfort was provided. We left there via water taxi (climbed out the window of the breakfast room right onto the boat!) at approx 7:45, easily made the 8:09 train to Mestre and the 8:44 Eurostar.
Have a great time on your trip!
