Quick Mont St Michel question

Hoping someone can give me a quick suggestion. We changed our itinerary to spend Wednesday night on Mont St Michel. We are staying at Auberge Saint Pierre. They are offering a deal that includes dinner and breakfast. Is this a good place to eat? It would be 104 Euro for only the room for two, or 88 Euro per person (there are two of us) that would include dinner and breakfast. I have heard food on the Mont is not always that good and can be expensive. This seems like a good deal but would love to hear from someone who knows.

We did their special demi-pension a year ago-3 couples. All of us were very satisfied. (We've eaten/stayed on the MSM 2 other times at other establishments and would definitely stay at Auberge St. Pierre again.

They have a wide selection to choose from on the dinner menu and we all tried something different. If you want pix of the food/hotel/restuarant I'd be glad to email you some. Just writel me at [email protected]. Service was very good and wait staff was friendly with nice personality. Breakfast buffet has lots of selection (including fresh made crepes).

We stayed at Auberge Saint Pierre in September, at a 4-person apartment down the street. We didn't eat there, so I can't advise on that.

However, we did eat at La Mere Poulard. It was the worst value for the money on our entire 18 day trip to France. First, we didn't make a reservation, so instead of the cute dining room downstairs, we were sent up to the banquet-like room upstairs where several families with very small children were eating. The atmosphere was like a huge, kind-of tired banquet hall, not too much fun, and I usually like most types of environments. The waiters were very nice and tried hard, though.

The famous omelettes were more like a souffle, thick and spongy, not like eggs at all. I didn't even bother to eat more than a few bites. I'd ordered an omelette for dessert too, but when I saw others being served their dessert, it was just like the appetizer omelette, with something sweet served with it. I switched to a different dessert, which was the best part of the meal.

The main course was okay, I guess, but nothing memorable. Overall, our bill for 4 came to over $450. One of our most expensive meals and I would say it was the worst, or maybe I just expected much more.

I hope you enjoy your overnight on Mont St. Michel. It was a fun experience for us. Especially fun was watching the last car being overtaken by the tide. A group of people gathered on the causeway and we noticed them from our hotel window. Finally, the driver came and rescued his car. The crowd seemed disappointed and dispersed. Great entertainment!

We stayed and ate at l'Auberge Saint-Pierre and thought that it was good value.

And yes, stay away from La Mère Poulard--it's way overpriced for what you get.

It sounds like a decent value to me, and I'd go for it. IME there aren't any culinary highlights to be had on le Mont, so I'd jump at a bargain like that.

Definitely steer clear of La Mere Poulard.

Enjoy your trip!
