Hubby & I are joining a 2-week escorted tour to Europe with Cosmos (Name of package is "From Rome to London&quot. We received our Cosmos travel kit last weekend, and I read that it's customary to give the tour director $3-$5-tip per day.

Here are my questions:

1. When do we give the tip to the tour director -- daily? weekly? or at the end of the 2-week tour?

2. Do we also tip the motorcoach driver? If so, how much and when?

Any other helpful ideas about tipping in Europe will be appreciated.

At the end of the tour the guide will give you a gentle remider about tipping and he/she will pass out envelopes. This gentle reminder will also include a plug for tipping the driver. Your literature should specify the customary amounts for tipping both the guide and the driver.

We took a tour quite a few years ago, and had a wonderful director and a fun driver, so we did indeed tip them both. I'm thinking, as a couple, we tipped about $2-3 x #tour days to the director, and maybe 1/2 or more of that amount to the driver? It was in 1996, so a long time ago. We gave each one an envelope at the end of the trip.

Sometimes people circulate 2 envelops among themselves, one for the tour manager, one for the driver and give them at dinner the evening before the tour ends.

I had a tour in Turkey for 2 weeks (May this year) and the recommendation from the tour company was $5/day for our guide and $3/day for our driver. My friend and I each gave $100 for our guide and $60 for our driver.

Our guide and driver were the best I've ever had. Having said that you can stick with the tour company recommendation or add on if you are super happy.

Place your tip in an envelope and give to both at the end of the trip. Should either leave the trip beforehand they will tell you so that you can present your trip beforehand.
