Question re: buses, metro in Rome
Greetings-
I'm planning on buying a CIS weekly tkt while in Rome to use on buses & metro- I understand there are 2 types of machines to stamp a tkt in on the Metro & bus- which one is the correct one for the weekly pass??
Thanks.

I've been to Rome numerous times and never had a crime problem until taking a Roman bus. A guy tried to pick-pocket the wallet from my purse but I caught him. I announced it to the whole bus and pointed him out. Ruined his day! My bottom line is to avoid the buses and Metro in Rome. I stay in the Centro Storico and walk to just about everywhere (I've even walked to and from the catacombs) or get a cab.

I've also been to Rome numerous times (like 20 or 30 times...), and while I have generally stayed in the centro storico and walked everywhere, I have also often taken the notorious No. 64 bus, the "pickpocket special" that goes from Roma Termini to St. Peter's.
I have never had my pocket picked or my wallet stolen. I do not wear a money belt, but an ordinary handbag just like the ones that the Roman women wear, who are not paranoid about their city.
(I do realize that you are a man and that you are unlikely to wear a handbag, but I also want to put the above post into perspective.)

Your reasoning is faulty and your solution impractical.
A better solution would be to stay alert to your surroundings especially in high risk situations like the Rome or any crowded public transport.

Thanks, all.
I purchased a neck wallet and will be putting cash, et al in there; I think I'll be able to feel a thief's hand up my shirt. I won't be carrying anything else 'cept a camera round the neck and a small camera bag slung cross the chest.
As for pub transport, I'm not planning on using it alot, as I'm staying right near Piazza Venezia, but I'm sure I'll be taking at least 2 buses/metro a day, so I think the CIS is worth it. I like to just buy one thing then be finished with having to buy more.
Thanks.

Took no.64 (and others)bus many times and never saw anything close to a crime.
I'm sure it happens, but it happens in major cities all over the world.
We never felt uncomfotable nor unsafe any time or any place (and we wandered all hours into many different areas).
I wish I could say that about Atlanta.
