Question on VAT refund

I have in the last week bought some things in Paris and in Vienna, the clerk at a store in Vienna said that I need to stamp receipt for Vienna purchases in Austria on way out, but while in Paris I was told to do all my combined purchases in EU upon my leaving last point, which will be Paris next week. Can someone verify this?

I have always done everything when leaving my last EU stop.

Make sure that you get to the airport very early. There can be a long line at the customs desk where you have your reimbursement approved. Theoretically the customs official can ask to see each item, although that did not happen to me.

thanks. I thought that it would probably be the EU. I suspect the lines are going to be long. We fly on the 3rd, I am hoping for quick process.

Thanks I am getting all the paperwork together and have done this years ago, can't remember, if I have all the items with me, is this before checking luggage, I sure don't want to carry with me on my trip. I am hoping they don't ask to see but probably need to be prepared. Thanks

There is a Detaxe desk that you can access before you check your luggage if your purchases are going to be checked. I've only been asked once at CDG to show the merchandise but am always prepared to do so.
