I knew what you meant, Elaine!!
No, I've walked by there but never knew about them living there until AFTER my last trip. There was a poster named Jason who mentioned that he'd gleaned that info from Cadogan Guide Paris, so I bought it.
Next trip, I want to visit there & their grave in Père Lachaise.
Also, there's an MIJE youth hostel on the rue des Barres behind the church, St-Gervais-St-Protais, near one of your favorite restaurants, Elaine, Chez Julien.
Yes, hopingtotravel, Hem referred to them as pilot fish in "A Moveable Feast" when he blamed them for the demise of his marriage to Hadley (due to their introduction into his life of Pauline Pfeiffer).

for anyone interested, the purported home of Heloise and Abelard is at numbers 9 and 11, quai aux Fleurs, on the water's edge of Ile de la Cite. Their carved heads are on the door lintels--placed there long after they were gone.

Wow, that is wonderful, Elaine!! I walked along the Quai aux Fleurs and never noticed that. I makes one marvel at all the history that has passed in Paris and at all the hidden things about this great city of which one is not aware.

I've always been interested in the Murphys as well. What a life! I have the book titled "Sara & Gerald" written by their daughter Honoria Murphy Donnelly, published in 1982. We actually sat on the beach at La Garoupe in Antibes but couldn't find their house.

according to the books I have:
Near Antibes, on the slope above Golfe Juan, between two tracks called the Chemin de Mougins and the Chemin de Nielles, original name of property was Chalet de Nielles. Other than Antibes, I don't know if those place names are still current.
Their daughter Honoria Donnelly might be alive still, or her children?

Funny you mentioned the Villa America,
that was in Cap D'Antibes.
I ordered the book written by the daughter Honoria Donnelly (married to William Donnelly who was a speech writer in the Kennedy administration)
It's called: Sara and Gerald Villa America and After."
