question about cutsoms

We are American, and leaving Rome to go to Barcelona. DO we get checked at Rome customs or Barcelona Customs?

You only go through customs when you enter a country - not when you leave. But, since Italy and Spain are both Schengen contries there will be no customs.

Being a US citizen is immaterial.

No customs? Are flight is from Atlanta to Barcelona. 3 hour layover, then Alitalia to Rome. SO you are telling me there will be no customs at all? Not even in Barcelona. This might give us time to go outside and see a little bit of it.

Hi M,

You didn't ask about ATL to Barcelona.

You will go through passport control and Customs on arrival in Spain.

You will go through passport control and Customs on your return to ATL.

No PC or C between Spain and Italy.

Of course there will be customs when you arrive in Europe but that wasn't what you asked. You've also reversed the direction of your travel within Europe.

Are you getting a bit stressed about your arrangements and losing it a little?

I don't think you are even asking about customs. The only place you will even know you are going through "Customs" Is when you re-enter the States (unless you have something to declare elsewhere)

What you probably are concerned about is IMMIGRATION (passport control)

ATL-FCO-BCN = passport control in FCO, customs in BCN

BCN-FCO-ATL = passport and customs in ATL
