Quaint Town for 2 Weeks
My two daughters, 21 & 13, and I are planning a trip to Switzerland and Austria for the month of Feb. We are looking for 2 home bases where we can ski, see cultural things and have easy access to trains so we can do day trips. Any ideas? I think we really prefer a small town vs. a large city. Any and all ideas appreciated.

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34693967 - - there has been a lot of confusion here lately about how to tell if a post "took" or not - - and a certain amount of double posting (like this and your "other" thread, a near-duplicate only a few minutes earlier) - - you will likely want to "click on your own name" as you may get answers on both postings.
There are threads such as http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34679830 with recent discussions of skiing destinations in Austria, to name one. Note that the message header of that thread mentioned the destination in the message header of the question. That's an element of good etiquette that is in common practice here.
Best wishes,
Rex

As wliwl explains, I was bringing back up... (to the top)... this post, which you asked three weeks ago (and in duplicate), and I saw that you have just today asked a related (not entirely similar) question. If you click on your name, you will see answers to your various questions.
Your other question (today) makes it sound a little less clear as to whether you know why you want to go to the (not yet finalized) destinations you're targeting.

I am just at the "info overload" stage.
I know we want to spend several days in Garmisch and are flying out of Munich; that is all I am definitive about.Any insight into "the Austrian-German" experience (ie quaint small towns that have skiing nearby ) would be greatly appreciated.Sorry to be so vague. Too many hrs. on the computer....

You do know that Garmisch is in Germany, don't you? But I will admit it is a good base for cultural things. The skiing is nice for a couple of days too.
I use to stay in Scuol/Switzerland for my winter vacations. A mix of skiing, exploring quaint villages, touring castles, museums and relaxing in the great spa.
