In Naples, Italy, we searched out one of the several places that are reported to have the "greatest pizza in the world". We went the "purist" route with the simplest of margarita pizzas. The crust was black. Couldn't get a bite without a total burnt taste and everybody else's looked the same. The sauce was so bland. Did nothing for me, but locals were picking up their orders by the hundreds.
Frankly, I've had the best pizzas all over the south of France. There's a place in Nice called "Pizza" that I think may have been the best I've ever had. And I love how in France they often bring you a bottle of wonderful herb flavored oil to drizzle across the top.

ira...
i don't know if we've got the same place, but if it's just off the main road in praiano on the righthand side overlooking the sea, i agree in spades!!!
i had my first seafood pizza (chopped tomatoes, calamari, scampi, cozzi w/ herbs...no cheese) there as well as my first limoncello. it was outstanding.
