Q Easter in Greece 2008

I would appreciate any advice and opinions about selecting one of these two choices. 1st choice - spend Easter weekend on Poros Island and participate in the local Easter celebrations including traditional Easter Sunday Dinner, then travel to Lesvos. 2nd choice - skip Poros and add more days to Lesvos. In Lesvos we may participate in the church celebrations but miss the traditional Easter Dinner Celebratin as planned on Poros. Thank you!

I am not aware of any special celebrations in Poros at Easter. The island well know for its Easter traditions and special events is Corfu, which admittedly is in the Ionian.

Regardless of your choice, be very certain that all your hotel, airline and ferry reservations are confirmed, because Eastertime in Greece is the busiest holiday of the year, and all forms of transportation and accomodations will be reserved well in advance by Greeks returning home for the holidays.

Every greek island during the easter period has its own beautiful traditions and i'm sure you'll find a way to enjoy a traditional easter dinner (most of the restaurants-taverns in greece serve one during the easter-weekend). My advice as a greek girl is to skip poros (the trip from poros to lesvos is quite tiring) and make the most of lesvos (it is a big island and you'll need at least 6-7days to enjoy it). A good idea is also to combine lesvos with Chios which is much closer than poros, or poros with another island.

Make sure you are looking at the Greek calendar, not the Western calendar. In 2008 the 2 Easters are 5 weeks apart.

Mar 23 Western
Apr 27 Eastern

My husband & I were in Paros for Greek Orthodox Easter at a timeshare in 2004. We lucked out on arriving the day before the celebration. They asked us if we would like to join in-of course. My husband took turns at the spit turning the lambs-all sorts of appetizers were on the table. There were a Greek brother and sister who did a dance for us all-truely a memorable experience. We found enough to do to occupy us for a week-took a boat to Antiporos for the day. There is something about Greece that just draws me. I beleive we then took a ferry to Santorini for a few days from there.Hope this helps Chris

Thank you for the good advice! We have decided to go to Lesvos, and we will be there 6 days. With the storms that have hit the midwest this month, the Hot Springs in Lesvos are sounding very good.
