I was just there in December and yes, like other posters said, you must check your purse. However, I brought with me a small fabric "disco" bag (remember those)- about the size of a wallet (like those travel-sized money holders people wear around their necks)- anyway, I checked my purse with not much in it and put the wallet in my little bag and felt secure holding my i.d. and credit cards.

The first time I went in 2000 I could keep my small purse.
In 2003 I was told to check my purse but was given a white plastic bag to carry anything I needed. The plastic bag was bigger than my purse and wasn't as easy to carry.

I have been wondering why I was allowed to have my purse (visit was January 2005).
First of all, it was really a small black travel bag, that hung right next to my body. I had my black coat on when I bought the ticket, and the black travel bag next to my coat did not stand out. But that couldn't be the case entirely, because I had to provide an ID card from my travel bag in order to get the audiophone.
So maybe it was a matter that the travel bag was below a certain size threshold - or who knows.
