Pubs/restaurants in Kensington??
Will be in London Dec 27 - Jan 2 staying at the Millennium Baileys hotel in Kensington right next to the Gloucester Road underground station. Any recommendations for good pubs and moderately priced restaurants in the general area?

There are loads of pubs and restau's right around that area..even Texas ribs~! but our favorite place is la sala Romano..It's above the Dino's pizza on the corner across from the tube!..go down the side and you'll see the door..Dover sole for 12 ponds..sounds pricey..but check it out anywhere else!..just a lovely quiet place ,with attentive service..and good food and wine!

I'm not into pub food..to me it's grubby and pre packaged in most places and not at all attractive..but there are 2 good pubs in the area...the Abbaye belgian..on the corner of Old Brompton Rd and Onslow gardens ..across from the shell station..WONDERFUL belgian beer and mussels..and the Anglesey..really a local but as a tourist you probably won't be shunned if you act accordingly! There are loads of restaurants all up and down the streets , French, Italian, Indian. whatever you can tink of in ALL price ranges!

Just across from the Gl. tube stop is one of the best Indian restos in London, called the Bombay Brasserie. If you've been told that London has better food than India, head there.

Also, the Forum hotel is next to the tube stop, wander through the lobby to the elevators on the right, go up to the 20th floor, find the fire escape exit,...completely safe and carpeted, for a fantastic view of all of London from the BBC tower to Big Ben.

Have fun!
Wendy

Bombay Brasserie serves exceptional Indian food, but it stretches the definition of moderately priced IMHO. I ate a business dinner there a few weeks ago, but wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if I was picking up the tab. It's a pretty big place, so I don't think reservations would be a must during midweek.

Your hotel is right next door, I am certain they would be happy to make reservations for you and also reserve the best table...It isn't snobbery by any means, yet the food is fantastic! It isn't cheap, but I didn't find it expensive either.

Not far from there, is another Indian resto a bit less expensive, in Bayswater, called Khans.

I lived right next to the Forum hotel ten years ago and found the view by accident...by simply getting turned around trying to find my parents' room when they came to visit.

You are also 2 blocks from a J.Sainsbury grocery and the amazing Harrods' Food Halls.

There are some great pubs and restos on King Street as well...
