Public transit in Munich and Berlin

Next week we are going to Munich for six nights.
I have looked at various options for public transit tickets and found it a bit confusing. Not sure what would be the" best buy"
We will be staying three Metro stops from Marienplatz ; except for the airport ( arrival and departure) and a visit to Dahau, we plan to use "white" zone only.

We are also going to Berlin for 5 nights - staying in Mitte ( at Melia).
I visited Berlin last year ( stayed in the same spot) but did a lot of walking and bough only single tickets.

Any suggestions ? Thanks

For Berlin, we thought the 7-day A/B ticket was a good deal (26,20 euro) for us. http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/17183...cle/77395.html

NOt sure if that works out for you. Will you be there 5 days or 6 days? I guess it'll come out to 4-5 euro/day, depending on how many days you'll actually be using it.

A single ticket is 2,10 euro, and it allows free transfers w/i 2 hours. So, if you are only taking the public transit twice a day, you'll be better off with single tickets. If you'll be using it a lot more, then get the 7-day pass.

There are also the CityTourCard as well as the WelcomeCard. Both offers free transport in the city (48 or 72 hours or 5 days available), and either free museum admission (CityTourCard) or discounted museum admissions + other attractions/tours discounts (WelcomeCard).

Best buy in Munich depends on how frequently you're planning to use public transport (every day?, serveral times per day?), which day of the week you arrive and depart, how frequntly you plan to leave the "white zone" inner ring of public transport. Most places a tourist would visit are inside that ring, but Dachau isn't. Weekly tickets are available that price wise cut that "white zone" into 2 rings.

thanks yk and logos.
We will use metro in Munich every day and most likely more than once. We arrive Monday ( we'll get all day tickets from the airport) and depart Sunday. Except for Dahau, we'll stay in the "white" zone.

yk, I think you are right - staying with single tickets
in Berlin seems reasonable. We arrive Sunday afternoon and leave Friday morning. From our hotel, we can cover a lot on foot.

Re Berlin: In your case, the single ticket may also have the advantage that you can switch between A/B Zone and A/B/C Zone tickets. You will need the latter, if you want to go to Potsdam, which I highly recommend.

All day ticket from the airport are a mistake in that case.
What you want is a one week "Isar card" per person valid from zone 1 to 4. Those are good for all your travels in the "white" zone for that whole week and will cost you 17.20€ per person. To get to and from the airport to downtown, use this plus a partner ticket Außenraum which costs 9.40€ for two people.
To get to Dachau from downtown, use a Kurzstrecke ticket for 1.20€ per person and ride. This will only take to to the third bus stop from the train staition in Dachau!! If you want to go further, buy a partner Ticket Außenraum for 9.40€.

That's how it's done

If someone asks for your ticket on your trips to/from the airport or Dachau, you show them both, your Isar Card and your other ticket. That way, you can stamp the Kurzstrecke ticket for Dachau right downtown, it's range will be extended by showing you Isar Card with it.
