Provence - What is YOUR favorite village to use as your base?

We're thinking... Any place from Chateauneuf du Pape to Cassis. St. Remy? Others?

We can't decide!! We'd like to be within about 25 km of the coast or so.

We'd love your ideas and even suggestions on villas, small hotels or B&Bs.

I've been researching and searching this site, but can't decide?

We enjoyed St. Remy as one base during our trip to Province. We stayed at Mas de Carassins and it was great.
cheers,

How many are traveling? When? Budget? Any particular area f the coast? This info might help with recommendations .

Capt Canuck, glad you liked St Remy. We will be there in just over a month, staying for a week. I went back and forth on a "base"--took advice of Stu Dudley and others for St Remy as good location for "first timer" to Provence. Next time we'll probably try Uzes.

This place in the hilltop town of Gordes looks beautiful, I believe it is a sister property to Mas de Carassins.

We stayed in Lourmarin and St. Remy on a visit to Provence. I enjoyed being in the village more than St. Remy.

Our first trip - Near Gordes for 2 weeks and near St Remy for 2 weeks

Our second trip - near Vaison for 2 weeks

Our third trip - same place near Gordes for 2 weeks and near Uzes for 2 weeks

Our fourth trip - near Bedoin for 2 weeks

Our fifth trip - same place near Bedoin for 4 weeks

Our sixth trip - same place near Bedoin for 2 weeks.

None within 25 K of the coast. St Remy is closest to the sea - but it is about 70 K away from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer - which seems to be the closest "spot" that is by the coast & where someone might want to spend time. I would not want to "base" within 25 K of the coast.

Thanks, Capt!

Cali - There are five of us. We'll be there in June. (I know it's late - we just booked flights last night.) We're flexible on the area of the coast, but want to avoid larger cities. Our budget is pretty flexible (not unlimited, though! LOL) if we find the perfect spot.

We like shabby French farmhouse and rustic stone as opposed to contemporary highrise apartments with high-polished granite.

A farm or gite with a pool would make the three teens very happy.

Good luck finding one this late. Three of the places where we stayed had pools - but we reserved them 1 year or more in advance.

I move around to different places for a change, but the place I have stayed the most and like for the best "base" is in Pernes-les-Fontaines.

We stayed at Mas Romarin in Gordes a great hotel overlooking the breathtaking town and loved it. Every day we explored the towns around Les Baux, Rousillon. Arles,Venasque and others....great restaurant Clos de Gustave in Gordes We found it very central to everything.

Loumarin and Gordes are both beautiful as well I would agree!

We also based in Bonnieux for a few days and enjoyed that too. You might find your shabby French farmhouse and Rustic Stone place there, and you might find more availability. We stayed at La Bouquiere.

cheers,

We loved Venasque. It's small but has a few restaurants. Easy to get to Avignon, Carpentras, etc. Nice views of Mount Ventoux.

Continental,

Don't despair of finding what you want.

just a cursory look just now yielded these places in Provence, all with pools, all with at least a couple weeks avaialable in June according to current VRBO calendars. (You didnt say what part of june)
Varying prices.

http://www.vrbo.com/88288

http://www.vrbo.com/58299 nr Gordes, but no reviews...hmmm)

http://www.vrbo.com/92099 (also no reviews)

Continentaldrifter--This research is fun!!!! I love seeing what 's out there. Future FYI for my family.

Below VRBO places are all in or nr Eygaliere--one of Cigalechanta's self-desecribed fav areas.

The place we are staying this June in St Remy is probably too small for a group of 5, but does have a pool and is right in town, if that helps anyone in the future:

locationdecharmeenprovence.com

Below VRBO places are all in or nr Eygaliere--one of Cigalechanta's self-desecribed fav areas. All show at least partial --some the entire month--availability for June:

(cozy, in the village, owned by US couple with 2 teenagers. No pool & might a bit small for 5.)

http://www.vrbo.com/281280 has pool, roomy, but not "rustic" looking

This B&B is lovely, great hosts, clean and it has a pool. I can't check on availability without sending an email, which I don't want to do, but you could. It is further north than you have asked about but it's not far from Vaisone la Romaine which is a lovely area to explore.
