Provence - Michelin Map #245

We traveled to Provence last month and I tried in vain to find the Michelin map #245 recommended by so many Fodorites and by the latest edition of Michelin's own Green Guide. I finally posted an email to Michelin and have just now received a polite reply - unfortunately too late for our trip, but hopefully helpful to you.

"We thank you for your message dated August 11 and have taken note of your comments.

The regional maps (reference numbers 230 to 278) have been redesigned to our new
graphic specifications for map products. They are now sold with orange covers
printed with the name "REGIONAL". The scale (1 : 200 000) is the same and the geographic areas covered by each map are the same, but this new series has been given new numbers.

We have launched this new collection as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our products up to date and meeting clients' needs and expectations.

We are sending you a table that shows the equivalent references of previous series cited in your Green Guide and the new maps in your possession in order to help you.

We are grateful for your readership and wish you many happy travels with Michelin maps and guides.

Yours sincerely,"

Map #245 is now #528 "Provence, Cote d'Azur"

I am surprised that you could not find the equivalent (#528) in a decent bookstore.

So THAT'S why I can't find #245. Thanks so much, TC.

Michael, I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post. It wasn't that I couldn't find 528 - it was that no one knew that 528 was the replacement for 245. The latest edition the Michelin's own Green Guide still called the map 245 with no mention of 528. Map 528 IS available in all book shops, but there is no reference to the fact that it is the replacement for 245 or that 245 is obsolete. Maybe this explanation will quell your surprise.

As I've recommended the #245 Yellow and only yesterday got one for a friend from a shipment received by my bookshop which must have been the last of the Yellow #245 stock inventory. Will make a note of the

Michelin Orange #528 -
Provence/Cote d'Azur

for future use. Thanks for the update TC
