I'm trying to book a fare on the TGV from Paris to Avignon next week. The fare I'm gettting is 186 Euros for 2, or 93 for 1 roundtrip. Is this good?

I've read about PREM fares for $25 Euros, but haven't seen them in the past few days on either the SNCF or TGV Web site. Do they alternate the destinations for PREMS daily, weekly or monthly? I need to book something soon so I'm not sure if I should wait for a PREM fare to Avignon. Also, are these PREM fares roundtrip? Am I missing anything else in terms of info. ? Thanks.

PREM fares are a limited number of discounted seats. At this late date, it is unlikely that you will see them.

That may explain it. As it turns out, we may be better off with a refundable/exchangable ticket so we'll probably need to go the full fare anway. Thanks.

That's a pretty normal fare, though I've paid less. Keep watching the PREMs, though - they change all the time. Also, right now there's a 25€ PREEM fare advertised for Paris-Marseille. Check the train and see if it stops in Avignon. There's nothing to preclude you from getting off early. And yes, the PREMs are one-way.

There is a TGV 6173 departing Paris Lyon at 9:34 to Marseille where you have to change trains at Avignon TGV.

I've tried booking PREM fare (I live in US), but scnf site won't allow it. How does anyone on this thread do it if they live in the US? Thanks.

If you can't find the fare you want on the SNCF site, try calling their English-language number,

There are all sorts of discounts: 2 or more people travelling together, kids, seniors, certain days of the week...it's easiest to talk with someone.

Hi rentssue,

They don't mail tickets to the US.

When you order tickets on SNCF leave the country for delivery as FRANCE.

Ask for the ticketless option.
You will then get an eml confirming your booking.

Bring this and the charge card you used to make the booking with you to the train station and get your tickets.

Ira -- thank you. I did as you suggested but found no "ticketless: option, only one for "print your own" and one for postal delivery of tickets. ???

To rentssu--We just did the "print your own" on our last trip in march and it could not have been easier!! I printed them on my computer at home and then we just boarded the train w/o ever having to go to a ticket window or even an automated ticket kiosk in the station. Then you just show that home printed tkt and your passport to the conductor when he comes around to check tkts. The good thing about printing them at home is that you can print them more than once so that there can be a backup somewhere in your luggage so you don't have to worry about losing them--if you are the kind to worry!!
