Hey, well it depends on where your heart is/was/wants to be!

Glad someone mentioned L'Auberge Español - released here as 'The Spanish Apartment'. As I love Spain I would also have to mention Hable con Ella - which is a 5 star movie any which way. And "Blood Wedding".

A Passage to India, Heat and Dust, The Chess Players, Monsoon Wedding. And towering above them all - The Jewel in the Crown (though only a TV series).

Out of Africa, The Constant Gardener, Somewhere in Africa.

Walkabout, Japanese Story, Lantana and the most brilliant film I have just seen "Jindabyne".

Alfred Hitchcock as the master of travel movies - To Catch a Thief, The Man who Knew Too Much and North by Northwest...

and yes, another vote for Sound of Music!!

I had to go to Scotland after seeing Local Hero. Did anyone else see that?

Thierry l'Hermite, a favorite actor of mine, was in "Until September," a fine film about France during the war years.

We could add another of his: "The Dinner Friends."

Olive Oil, I used to watch Local Hero over and over again; I loved that movie.

And I want to add Barcelona, which is also a huge favorite of mine, and one that I can watch any time.

(<i>Everything is Illuminated</i> still, too.)

- Okay- not literally... but I still love the movie.

Two for the Road - I saw it in my &quot;youth&quot; but it was 20+ years before I could start my travels to Europe. I've told my husband when he retires next year we are going to backpack through Europe! Elderhostel comes to mind!!!!

&quot;Enchanted April,&quot; &quot;Dangerous Beauty,&quot; and &quot;Summertime.&quot;

I also agree about the beautiful shots of Santorini in &quot;Summer Lovers,&quot; even though it's a dreadful movie. Based on my experiences in Greece, I'm convinced &quot;Shirley Valentine&quot; is not a piece of fiction!

I bought all of these movies and never tire of watching them.

Another one whose name I can't quite remember is with Christopher Walken and is filmed in Venice. It has the word Strangers in the title. A little creepy.

luvtotravel, The Comfort of Strangers. Great shots of backstreet Venice. I love Christopher Walken.

Starrsville, thanks for reminding me I much I enjoyed Shrirley Valentine. I think I will rent it to see it again.

So many great movies listed here and so many of them American or English made.

What a great list of see agains.

A lot of great movies and I would like to add another oldie, Come September, one of those fun 1960's era movies starring Rock Hudson, Gina Lolabrigida, Bobby Darin, and Sandra Dee, the latter two who met on the set of the movie. It is set on the Italian coast with many scenes of Rome as well. Very fun!

Until September with Karen Allen and Thierry Lhermitte but it isn't about the War Years. It's about a single American girl who gets separated from her tour group and gets stranded in Paris and has a romance with a neighbor (she is staying in a former schoolmate's apartment whom she hasn't seen for years). Great scenery of Paris. And Thierry.....

beaupeep! Yes and thanks to the other poster that gave his name...what a smooth operator (French actor Thierry)! Loved that film...

Also &quot;Private Benjamin&quot; had some scenes in Europe that were cool...

Forgot to mention &quot;Luther&quot; very good movie on Martin Luther's life set mostly in England.

kswl...will definitely check out I Am David...I have been looking for good WW2 movies before our trip...thank you!!

What was the name of the family who left Berlin in a balloon? Oh! Night Crossing!

The Wilderness Family for cool mountain scenes

Somewhere in Time for cool Makinaw Island scenes

Ladies in Lavender for neat British coast scenes...

Okay, must stop!

I really don't watch that many movies, about 1 a month...but I try to make them &quot;take me somewhere&quot; when life holds me back!

Tea with Mussolini,
especially the final scene in San.G. and the ladies(Judy Dench, Lily tomlin, Maggie Smith etc.) tying themselves to protect the towers.
Plus the earlier scenes in Florence and Tuscany.

My favorites are Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.

I love how Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphi's characters meet on a train going to Vienna and then decide to spend the day and night there before he has to catch his flight back to the US. Seeing all of the sights in Vienna and Paris make me long to visit the cities all over again.

Sorry! &quot;Until September&quot; isn't the film I wasn't thinking about, and now I can't remember the name. It had to do with a young French-woman student who was fleeing Paris at the start of the Nazi occupation, accompanied by her scientist mentor--and several large containers of heavy water. Fine cast.

Anyone have the name?

Sorry tonianyc, but &quot; The Motorcycle Diaries&quot; has nothing to do with Mexico whatsoever....! It is based on Che Guevara's road trip around Argentina, Peru and Chile, filmed entirely on locations. I do agree as far as travel film is a WOW!
