I was in Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento and Paestum last week. I hope it does not rain, because it would dampen the view. My husband and I went around by bus. We parked our car and moved by bus. The SITA bus are wonderful. You buy a 5 euros ticket and it is valid for 24 hours. You can go anywhere with the SITA busses We went to Positano from Amalfi, to Sorrento, to Salerno because the boats were not running since we had a bad rain storm at night and the sea was rough. We did all that for 5 euros each. You buy the tickets either at the hotel where you'll be staying or in town. They do not sell tickets on the bus. Make sure to validate the ticket as soon as you go on the bus. Don't skip Amalfi. It is wonderful.
Have fun.

I think it’s a good idea that you are making contingency plans in case of rain. We were in Sorrento a few years ago and it rained for over two days without stop; we did a lot of shopping, a lot of eating and spent some quality personal time together.
We were in Sorrento last Saturday 6 October and it rained intermittently during the day. This didn’t bother us because this was the day that we went to Paestum which is nearby and where it was partly cloudy to sunny. When we got back to Sorrento showers became rain which became a torrential downpour. We were eating dinner at a restaurant downhill from Corso Italia and they had to put towels around the doors to keep it from flooding. When we left water was at least eight inches deep in the streets. We took our shoes off and waded back to the hotel with thoroughly wet clothes. It actually was a lot more fun than it sounds. It rained all night, but was beautiful the next day.
A couple of weeks before we left I was checking the La Tonnarella webcam and it was virtually useless for one whole day because of continuous rain. The Aminta turned theirs off. All this is to say that, while it may ‘usually’ only rain for an hour or so, you should prepare for the unfortunate conditions that we have experienced. Take umbrellas, some clothes and shoes that you don’t care about and a sense of humor and you can still have a good time.
The driver on the Sita bus that we took from Sorrento to Positano sold tickets to those who didn’t have them but it is best to plan in advance. The five euro ticket is good all day all over the coast.

The storms on the Amalfi coast are exciting, loud thunder and wild wind and rain. At least for me, coming from So. Cal with our boring storms.
I have had stormy days in Positano where I sat at the window of my apartment or on the porch with a coffee or wine and watched earth's show. A few times I sat in restaurants with windows and waited for a lull so I could get back to the car.
Usually the storms don't last all the day so hope for some respite and have backup plans and clothes as mentioned. Have fun.
