Positano in October?

Anyone know what the weather's like in Positano and/or Capri in October or November? Is it a decent time to go if you just want to relax?

October will still be not to chilly and most things will still be open. By November you are really off season and a lot of hotels and restaurants will be closed. Neither will be really beach weather - so unless you want a lot of hiking not so much to do for more than a few days.

And if the weather bad/seas rough the ferries don;t run- so access to Capri is limited.

Look at any destination guide for the Amalfi coast and they will tell you October is a beautiful month - and any time of the year is a great time to go to the Amalfi if you want to relax, even November.

It is also a great time of year to go to Pompeii.

Nytraveler, which year was it you spent October and November in Postiano/Capri? What personal experience do you bring to this, and how long ago?

Thanks so much, y'all. I'm definitely putting it on my list of places we want to zip off to from London for a few days.

Hi GTG,

We were oin the AC the 1st week of Oct. If anything, the last day was too warm. There were two very rainy days.

Enjoy your visit.

I have been there in October three times in the last five years. In 2006 I was in Ravello, Amalfi, Capri, Iscia, Procida, etc. until October 28, and it was a wonderful time to be there. I haven't been to that area in November. The weather was perfect, sunny, warm days, cooler at night, misty mornings with that gorgeous golden light found only in the autumn. No rain, one day overcast, as far as I can tell from my photographs. Many fewer tourists, especially on the islands. We were on the beaches and in the water during the visits and my photos show lots of other people in bathing costume on the beaches and swimming as well.

I was there last September and had some very cool days and a warm day or two. I've also been in late March/early April with similar weather.

In Oct (this year), start checking the weather on weather.com to get an idea. Also check out some of the local webcams. One of the things I don't care for traveling shoulder season is less daylight.
