Positano hotels w/ breakfast outdoors

Hi Everyone:
We're planning to stay in Positano for a couple of nights in October. We'd prefer a hotel with:
1)breakfast on a terrace overlooking Positano and the ocean.
2)something up to $300E/night.
3)location somewhere close to restaurants, high up in the hills enough for a good view but not so high that we'll have a hard time getting around.
Can anyone recommend a hotel? Some names that I got from the board are: Eden Roc, Miramare, Poseidon, Posa Posa. Any feedback would be great, thanks!!

I can't say what October weather will be like, but in September, the Hotel Poseidon met all your requirements. We had dinner outside, too.

I would say that any hotel in Positano that is high up enough for a good view will be high up enough that you will have to do some steps from sea level. I didn't find it too hard, nor did my husband, but friends that joined us thought the walk was too steep and the steps were too challenging. We are all in late forties to mid fifties.

Another vote for the wonderful Hotel Poseidon. The views are astounding from the restaurant terrace, and when we last visited ( 2 years ago) the food matched!

I'm sure that every hotel in Positano serves breakfast outside, weather permitting.

Hotel Villa Rosa (www.villarosapositano.com). 150 EU/night in the high season, beautiful view, less than 10 minute walk to beach!

Question.... when the hotel says 'no lift', should I be concerned? We're traveling w/ Parents that are healthy, in their 60's.

Check out Albergo California as well. It meets all these requirements and we stayed there in October 2003 and really enjoyed it.

No lift just means you have to walk up a lot of steep steps. As long as they can walk up steps they should be ok...but they probably need to be in shape.

Positano is a cliffside town with tons of steps back and forth to almost every destination. The views are gorgeous from some of the hotels on the cliff, but you have to be physically able to deal with all the stairclimbing. If your parents are in reasonable shape, and don't mind that kind of thing, fine. Otherwise look for a hotel closer to the beach/town like PALAZZO MURAT or COVO DEI SARCENI.

We stayed at Hotel (or Albergo) California in May 2005 and enjoyed it. It has the same view as the Villa Rosa without the steps if mobility is a concern. Breakfast is outdoors on a terrace covered by beautiful grapevines

I've never stayed in a B & B before, but hotel California & Villa Rosa sounds wonderful. So there's no restaurant in the building but they deliver breakfast to your room each day? My husband is worried about security(because it's a smaller hotel). What are your thoughts?

The room and balcony we had at the Eden Roc was fantastic and you could certainly have roomservice breakfast on your own balcony. I think the restaurant area was inside tho as far as I can remember...

Security???!!! You're in Positano, not New York City. It will be fine. For a week in Positano, I'd let them steal my first born!

I have stayed at the Hotel Pupetto in Positano right on the ocean and they have a lovely restaurant. They also have a very nice breakfast which is included with the room. We have been there several times the last time being Sept. 2004 and we only paid 110 euros per night. Their site indicates more but if you email them,( do not fill out the reservation request) just email them to check on rates and availability it always comes back less than the price on the internet.

Visit their site and see the rooms and restaurant yourself.

I know wherever you stay you will enjoy Positano. I always do. I am not going this year, I am going to Greece instead but I am jealous that you are going to one of my very favorite spots on earth.

Have a Great Trip.

California has an outdoor veranda where breakfast is served and then during the rest of the day it's available for just sitting and chilling. I think that they also have a bar where you can get a drink in the afternoon-not open to the public but you can grab and employee and they'll help you. TexasAggie, do they still have that? Security never even crossed my mind, what exactly are his concerns? It's actually not that small and all the rooms lock. You may want to prepare your husband though b/c many of the hotels we have stayed at throughout Europe ask you to leave your room key when you leave so they know who's there and when they can clean. I've never had a security problem though.

I can't recommend the Hotel Poseidon highly enough. We were there for 3 nights last July and I still think about the views from that hotel. I took some wonderful photos from the terrace and even did a very amateurish watercolor of that scene recently.

Both breakfast and dinner are beautiful. At night, when the lights start twinkling around the mountain, it's pure magic.

The food is wonderful as well. We went to a restaurant up in Montepertuso 1 night. Both the food and ambiance didn't compare to the Poseidon. The staff is also wonderful.

We happened to be there over the 4th of July. American flags were placed all over the terrace. When I thanked the desk staff for making us feel so good to see that, the gentleman showed me his mousepad. It was an American flag. He said they loved Americans there. It was a very good feeling.
