Positano Hotels

I am planning on 5 nights in Positano in early Oct. and would like any recommendations that anyone has. I am considerng Covo dei Saraceni, La Tartana, Eden Roc or Poseidon.Obtained these off the internet, but, as always, personal opinions are best. Any restaurants would also be appreciated. Do the coastal ferries all run in Oct?

My friend stayed at the Eden Roc in April this year. Said it was one of the nicest experiences he has ever had, and he is well traveled. Hope this helps.

Given those choices, I'd opt for Covo dei Saraceni. I've read positive comments about that hotel on this site. I've stayed at the Villa Rosa, which is owned by the same folks as La Tartana. I enjoyed it, however I don't think it's in the same league as Covo dei Saraceni. Several months ago, there was a discussion as to which hotel would be better comparing La Tartana versus Villa Rosa. The beauty of staying in Positano is the view --- and La Tartana sits lower on the cliff than Villa Rosa; it appears to be fairly close to the beach (if that's important to you.
We've stayed at the Covo dei Sarceni both times we were in Positano and enjoyed it a lot. We had rooms on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the beach and all the activity there. It is almost directly on the beach (across a narrow paved path/road from the beach) so it's not up high affording views over some of the town as the Poseiden is. That also means you don't have to walk up lots of steps to get to the hotel from the beach and the shops and restaurants around the beach. Nice pool also. We'll stay there again next time we're in Positano. I hope it's soon.

John,

We absolutely love the Poseidon. We stayed there in July 2002, ( jr. suite with wonderful terrace overlooking all of Positano for about $330/night) and are still raving about it. The staff could not have been more helpful or enjoyable, and the food was out of this world. In fact, I think the lunches we had at the Poseidon rate as some of the best food we had on the entire Amalfi Coast, and we were there for ten days! I would highly recommend a restaurant in the mountain town over Positano called "Donna Rosa", as well as the one half a block down from "Donna Rosa" whose name I can't remember right now. If you have any questions or need any info, feel free to e-mail me. It was one of our best trips ever and I'm happy to share the information. Have a great time!

Hi John,

I stayed at Villa Tartana and wrote up a comparison of Positano hotels, including the ones you mentioned. Just type in "kiki" into the search box and it should come up.

In a nutshell, Eden Roc is on a busy corner, so I would skip that. Poseidon is for you if you are a smoker - it was the only hotel that I visited whereby the lobbies, restaurants, etc. were filled with smoke. Covo looked quite nice. I stayed at Villa La Tartana.

Please see my review for extensive details and restaurant and bargain hunting tips!
