Portugal itinerary

Hi,
I am planning a trip to Portugal in mid April.
Please comment on my intended itinerary:
Fly to Lisbon, pick up rental car at the Airport, go to Estremadura.
I need help selecting a base for visiting Nazare, Batalha, Tomar and Obidos where I‘ll stay for two nights.

After that I continue driving towards Porto. On the way I will visit Coimbra.
In Porto I will return the car, spend two nights and take a train to Lisbon.

In Lisbon I will stay for 4 nights.

Thanks in advance for your comments

We did Batalha and Tomar from Coimbra whose old university is worth a visit. Click on my name and you'll find my trip report on Portugal.

I second Lobo's rec above for Obidos (oh-bee-doosh). The Estalagem do Convento is perfectly located just outside the walls of the town..easy walk to everythng within. Lobo is the resident expert, so pay attention. LOL. He helped us immeasurably for our visit in May, 2008. (Be sure to visit Sitio overlooking the bay and Nazare')

Here's a little preview for your visit to this gem of a country. You'll love it...

Hi
My family is also planning trip to Portugal for early May2009. Part of our trip will also be several days centrally located to visit Nazare, Batalha, Tomar, Fatima, Obidos & others. A couple guest houses I located central to these towns for daytrips are:
http://www.quintadasrosas.com/
http://www.princesadopinhal.com/

We also then travel north to Porto (there are TAP flights 4Xweek from Porto to Newark) but spending time alittle bit north in Braga for trips to Dom Jesus & Guimaraes before staying in Porto & returning to NJ. I have some websites for hotels, pensaos & residental (pensaos & residentals more akin to B&Bs in Portugal) culled from fodors postings, tripadvisor & various portugal tour books recommendations that I will post later.
