Polignare a Mare or Monopoli for two nights?
Upmarket accommodation for PaM for next May is already hard to come by. What do people think about staying in Monopoli instead? We are there two nights only and I definitely want to be able to walk around PaM one night which will mean driving back to Monopoli at night. We had planned to do a loop to Ostuni, Locorotondo and Monopoli anyway. Thoughts?

If interested and it’s available, this was the place we stayed in. It’s on,y got one BR, though.

We loved our ten days in Polignano. If you can’t find the lodging you want there, then Monopoli is a good choice. It is a five minute train ride from Polignano. We stayed at Hotel Covo dei Saraceno with it’s fabulous views. .

PaM=outstanding array of high-quality gelato shops, a beach plus proximity to nearby St. Vito.
Monopoli= full-on, authentic residential Puglian port town with nice seaside walk and VG weekly market *bonus=compelling little marina with arch entry onto view of Venetian porch thing
Eezy peezy train rides without much conductor presence.
I am done. the gelsi neri

Thanks Progol. I read/saw all your photos from your TR - fantastic! I'm sure Monopoli would be nice, and I note Happy Trvlr said the train ride between the towns is only 5 minutes. I guess I'm stuck on PAM and I'll book something in Monopoli "just in case." The place we had booked for 2020 in PAM is not available but I will keep checking it every month, just in case. I've tried to write directly to the hotel but the email bounced. I might try to call them directly. Thanks for your reply.

hi, red,
I’m glad my TR was helpful to you! I hope you find a place you like in Polignano - I don’t know your exact dates, but I saw several nice places listed in May on booking.com, so it might be worth looking there, too.
FWIW, I know many folks actually preferred staying in Monopoli as it’s very much a working town with a charming historic center and also having the wonderful location on the water. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
