Edinburgh is one of my favorite places, and everyone is right about the people: The Scots are the BEST people! Nevertheless, my vote is for Florence --UNLESS you are planning to stay over and go touring in Tuscany. Everthing will be closed. They all go on vacation after New Year's, from about Jan 5th or 6th. In fact, a good many places are closed after Oct. 31st. And Florence isn't warm in January. But the Duomo and Michelangelo's David with take your breath away, and that's not a bad way to start the New Year!

There are many fish and chip shops in Sorrento, DJ, the reason being that many English tourists go there on holiday. Have you ever been there? I think not.

hey, I would say go to Edinburgh, because the atmosphere is just so wonderfull, and it is meant to be perfect at homany.
but florence is also a lovely place to be,but it would not go there for new year.
sorrento is just amazing the amalfi coast is a beauty, but at that time of year there might be not many people and a lot of hotels might be closed.
I would suggest to go to sorrento once in your life ,but not for new year.
go to edinburgh and enjoy this city
