Please HELP with Lisbon hotel choice!!

We're down to the last two choices. Have read many reports & are wondering if there are any last minute thoughts.

We'll be in Lisbon in July.
We are 'up in years' --like 70's--yikes!!
Want hotel that is near buses, restaurants, etc.
Don't care if it's not 4 *, but want something that will not be 'too 'cheesy'.
Would either of our choices be in a better location for the above.

Have narrowed our choices to::::

Borges - $353 for two nights
Residencial Florescente - $200 for two nights

Any last minute thoughts from the Fodor readers, the best advisors around!

unfortunately I can't help you as we rented a wonderful apt right in the chiado area of Lisbon.

Bringing this to the top for someone else to reply- hopefully.

Last time I was in Lisbon, I stayed in a hotel near the Airport: Olissipo Orient. It used to be a lot more affordable...
It is near the Orient Station and the Vasco da Gama shopping center.

Thanks.

I stayed at the Borges last summer. The best thing about it was its great location. Also the room was large, although they might not all be, and the air conditioning was good. The breakfast wasn't worth going to, even though it was included. The hotel could use some renovation but it was comfortable.

Your price sounds high, though; have you checked various booking sources for your dates?

Hi, travelegs,

I haven't stayed at either place, so I'm afraid I can't help you on what the accommodations are like, but the locations of both are good. Both are on pedestrian streets, so that cuts down on traffic noise but usually means the late night vocal noise will be high. The Borges is right outside the metro stop for Chiado on a pedestrian street. The Florescente is just a few blocks down the hill. Both are in an old part of town, close to lots of hotels and services.

I concur with the other posters who say the prices seem high. The Florescente's own website, www.residencialflorescente.com lists 55E for a double room in July.

Good luck with your decision.
