Places to stay in Italy

Hello, My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Italy. We are going to Rome, Florence, and Cinque Terre (Vernazza). Can anyone recommend hotels and/or B&Bs in those areas? Thanks in advance.

Hi
You might be new here, so let me make some suggestions.
First, give us an idea of your budget--what do you want to spend each night?
If you can also indicate how many days each place, whether or not you are driving (as in, parking needed), etc, that would be helpful in generating suggestions. You might also want to click at the top of this screen on Hotels--that will lead you to "rants and raves" comments on many hotels.

good luck

Hi:

We were in Rome this past September and stayed at the Hotel Navona around the corner from the Piazza Navona. The rooms are clean and it is within walking distance from all of the sights you will want to see. Breakfast is typical: a hard roll and coffee. I've read good and not so good reviews on this Hotel but we are going back in March and staying there again. The price is right, E120 per night for two. Or I understand they have an apartment that runs around E140 per night and might be better for you since it has a kitchen. I hope this helps. Have a great time.

In fact I am new to this website! We are planning on staying for 3 nights in each area and will be traveling by rail. Our budget is a little hard to say right now because I'm not sure what the average prices are for those cities. I will definitly check out the hotels rants/raves page.

The website www.venere.com will quickly give you a good idea about the range of hotel room rates in Rome and Florence, and probably Vernazza too.

Choosing one arbitrary night in October, venere lists 285 rooms for Rome. You may find different numbers of rooms available at different rates in other months.

Only 12 of them are 5 star. Range 338-698 euro per double room per night.

70 of them are 4 star. Range 98-420 euro per double room per night.

144 of them are 3 star. Range 70-385 euro per dpuble room per night.

51 of them are 2 star. Range 90-166 euro per double room per night.

9 of them are 1 star. Range 70-105 euro per double per night.

Thus, the average hotel - - on THIS (reasonably complete) listing (probably well over 50% of all the hotels in Rome) is a 3 star hotel. The average price is somewhere between 140 and 200 euro per night.

If your honeymoon is less than seven nights, it might be worth your while to cut out one destination. If it is 8-12 nights, then a typical budget might be

$1200-2400 airfare to/from Italy. (25-45%)

$800-3600 lodging (35-45%)

$400-1600 meals (15-20%)

$200-1000 transport and attractions (5-15%)

As with all matters financial in your married life-to-be, you and your fiance should talk about what can you realistically afford, and then, how you will make those percentages work for you.

No doubt others will tell you about extremes at either end of (and outside) these ranges that worked for them.

Whatever your choices, congratulations on your new life in marriage... and...

Best wishes,

Rex
