Place to stay between Barcelona Airport and Girona
We are flying in and out of BCN airport on route to Collioure, France. We would like to spend one night halfway between the 2 cities (near Figueres/ Roses or open to suggestions) on our way to Collioure. We have a very early flight home so we need to drive most of the way the night before our flight home out of BCN and need a suggestion for a hotel on route to the airport (doesn't have to be very close to it but within an hour's drive.
Thank you,
Thank you,

We liked Mas Pau -- a wonderful restaurant with rooms about 4 km from Figueres...but, sadly, we haven't been there for about 10 years. From the web site it looks like the hotel has expanded since then! My one piece of advice for the return trip is to stay fairly close to BCN -- we had a rather nerve-wracking drive to catch a morning BCN flight once, when I didn't factor in enough time for weekday rush hour traffic around Barcelona.

If you are going to be driving in the morning traffic, then I recommend, as already mentioned, staying closer to the city, preferably to the northwest, west or southwest. The airport is to the southwest of Barcelona. You could spend the last night in Sitges, have a decent meal, relax and take a taxi to the airport in the morning.

we recently had the same idea... spending our last night in Spain a short drive away from the airport in Barcelona. Luckily we changed our plans and stayed close (just south of the airport). Our flight was to leave at 10:45 and we left for the airport at 8:15, only a few km from the airport. Still it took most of the time we had to return the car, get boarding passes and check luggage and go through security. We got on the plane 10 minutes to spare, but good thing we didn't stay too far away!

I once stayed at the Tryp Barcelona at the airport the night before a flight. I dropped off the car, went into Barcelona for a great meal, and went back to the airport.
Just be aware that if you take a taxi back to the Tryp, it is technically inside the airport and the taxi driver can legitimately charge you the airport surcharge -- which is pricey! You might want to use the train to get back to the airport and walk to the Tryp.
As for a town on the way to Collioure, how about the very atmospheric Castello d'Empuries?

Check Tripadvisor too.
Does it have to be a town? There are great countryside restaurant/hotels all over that area.

To Zeppole, it doesn't have to be a town. Just looking for something quaint and about 1/2 way for the trip up to Collioure and then on the way back it's all about ease of access to the airport. The Castello d'Empuries looks great; not sure where that area is so will look it up.
Thanks too Robert2533 about traffic on Saturdays.

We just got back from a week's stay in the Cataluyna area - one night Girona, 2 nights Collioure, 2 nights outside of Figueres at Borrassa here:
http://www.booking.com/hotels/hotel/...922778227a6ba6
The Cal Governador was just what we were looking for - privacy, romance at affordable price. All the pictures shown on the site are spot on...except the pool which was still empty as of June 9, so if that is important I would check with Teresa via email. Airconditioning worked great. We drove the 20 minutes over to the charming medieval town of Besalu for dinner because Gal Governador's restaurant closure time out of season is Sunday pm and Mondays.
There is nothing to do in the tiny town of Borrassa, so if you are looking for great night life, forget it.
If you are looking for a modern hotel with a lovely pool and fantastic gourmet restaurant, you could look into the Buon Ritorn on the outskirts of Figues. Lacks overall charm, as it is located on one of the major thoroughfares (N11)but their 39 euros gourmet menu was stupendous! Great value for the money and nice waitstaff (if you forive the maitre d' who always looks waaaay too serious).
Collioure was magnificent...I'm ready to go back today!
