Driving to Barcelona Airport

We will be spending 3 days in Barcelona and then we will be picking up our car rental at the Sants train station and heading for Girona and the Pyrenees for a week.
On our last night before departure we were thinking of spending the nite outside of Barcelona somewhere---perhaps 20 or 30 minutes along the coast somewhere.
Any suggestions for a last night?

And Question: Is driving out to the airport BCN a pretty straight shot? Does Barcelona have a "rush hour" problem that we need to be aware of?
Thanks,
Pete

You could consider Sitges - on the coast on the airport side of Barcelona. It's about 20-30 min from El Prat so could work for you. Fun family- and gay-friendly beach resort. There will be some traffic but I doubt if it will be all that bad.

Driving to the airport is easy as far as I am concerned (I did it once). Rush hour would be at lunchtime (2 pm) and after work (5 pm and on to around 7). IN the morning the traffic is headed in, so no worries.

if you sleep at sitges, south of barcelona, you MAY be slight party to morning traffic on way to barcelona airport.

your hotel can give you good estimate.(add onto it a bit.. as i doubt you drive as quickly as they do or know your way as well).

sitges would be good location, free street parking and hotels cheaper than barcelona in most cases.

There will be plenty of traffic headed into the city in the morning. Last I was in town there was a lot of road construction near the airport but by the time of your visit that may be, or already be, cleared.

Hi,
We will also be driving into the Barcelona airport from Aigua Blava on the coast near Girona. We have a noon flight and need to be at the airport by 10:00 am. How much time should we allow?

from aigua blava you are in a position to give yourself PLENTY of time as the airport is SOUTH of barcelona, putting you in with all sorts of heavy transit traffic.

i'll let someone else give exact times, but just for myself, i would give myself at LEAST two-2.5 hours

ther is a parador there up on a cliff with great views.

(sorry if i didn't let travelin family answer!)

otherwise, rugged coastline, a bit similar to the carmel, ca area.

Thanks for the information on driving. Aigua Blava is supposed to be a very quiet, beautiful and romantic spot!
