Place to spend the night between Fussen and Salzburg?
We'll be driving from Fuseen to Salzburg, and would like to find a place to spend the night along the way. I know we can do the drive easily in one day, but we don't really need to.
We're thinking about stopping at Chiemsee to see the castle, but none of the sleeping options there have really jumped out at us.
Not necessarily opposed to cutting through Austria instead of Germany, either.
Any recommendations on a place to stop along the way? We'll probably leave Fussen after breakfast, and want to arrive in Salzburg mid-afternoon the following day.

Here's one possibility for you. Take the Germany route via Bad Tölz - Miesbach - Bernau - to Chiemsee - visit Herrenchiemsee - have lunch - then drive south along the Alpenstrasse to Unterwössen. Spend the night at a beautiful farm there and continue on to Salzburg the the next day - via Reit im Winkl - and Berchtesgaden. Excellent route with great views along the way... Ben

Hi W,
At www.viamichelin enter the route via Imst and Sankt Johann in Tirol.
You will pass through Innsbruck and near Kitzbuhel.
You'll need a tax sticker for Austria.

Hi,
I agree with Tracy, Hall in Tirol. It's one of our favorite places anywhere, and a good halfway point between Fussen and Salzburg. The Austrian vignette or toll sticker is easy and cheap to pick up.
The scenery is terrific also!
