Piran or Portoroz

Anyone with info on Piran or Portoroz?
What are the main characteristics of both cities/villages?
I am looking for a quiet place to rest during the coming summer; family vacation with 2 kids in a quiet place, no need for night life.
Any suggestions for B&B or 3-star hotels?

They are 2 miles apart. Piran is the quaint fishing village with tons of charm and the 3 star Hotel Piran. Portorocz is an upscale modern resort town with several good high rise hotels with great salt water pool. We stayed at Hotel Slovenia in Portorocz but spent more time in Piran.

I wish I could say something about Piran. We drove from Trieste on a Sunday to Piran. Unfortunately when we got there, we found that no cars are allowed into the village (maybe that's only on weekends). And the big parking lot at the edge of town was completely filled. For about 45 minutes we kept circling trying to grab a space if someone left but had no luck. There was no way we could figure that we could actually see Piran, because there was nowhere to park to get to it. We ended up driving to Portoroz and parking the car. We had lunch at a nice little place there, hit an ATM, and walked around. Portoroz was a nice enough modernish resort area. Sorry we never got to see Piran.

Hi
We stayed in Piran several years ago and were very glad we made that choice. It is family oriented more and quiter and less honky tonk. Portoroz is larger, has more tourists, as well as a casino. we went there for a short time but enjoyed Piran as it was nicer, we thought. It depends what your looking for in a resort.
