Peterhof

Does anyone know the travel time to Peterhof from St. Petersburg. Is the hydrofoil a better way to go? I understand that it takes about 50min. Can you see Peterhof and Pushkin and still leave time to visit some of the sites in St. Petersburg in one day?
thanks all...

Seeing Peterhof and Pushkin and the main sites of St Petersburg is really pushing it, unless you have a driver (which would alleviate SOME of the time pressure). Also, count on some long lines getting into places like the Palace at Peterhof if you go on a weekend in the Summer, and count on long lines at the entrance to the Hermitage, unless you are going with a licensed guide who could get you in immediately.

Mark,
we are going in early June only have 2 days. I have booked guide and driver for first day. We thought we would visit Peterhof and Pushkin with the guide and driver then hoped that we could spend some time downtown with them to get the lay of the land.

We have arranged for the driver to drive us to the Folklore show on the first evening.

The second day we would like to wonder on our own. We know that it is impossible to see it all..in two days. . One day we will return when we have more time.

We will be in Prague for a week at the start of this trip and this two week cruise to the Balkins will just give us an idea of places we would like to return and spend more time.
Do you think we will be able to fit more into our first day? And what is realistic to try and accomplish.
By the way we did final receive our Visa's from the Cdn. Russian Embassy.

That should work out--figure about 3-4 hours at Peterhof, another 3-4 hours at Pushkin (depending on what you visit)--there is also a great restaurant near the Palace, about a five minute drive away--I can't remember the name but some of the guide books should have it (famous as the Prince of Wales was an early guest).

Carol,

Just alittle heads up about the folklore show. We managed to sit through the first half (which is dancing and music) before leaving. The whole thing was a bit contrived and we felt our time was better spent in the heart of St. Pete's enjoying the real thing. Another note... we were the only people in the audience under 60 (not that that is a bad thing, but that is who the show is geared toward). So IMO, our 40 dollars or so per person would have been better spent elsewhere. The rest of our trip was wonderful. Consider spending the extra time at Peterhof... it is sooooo beautiful. Watch out for the fountains, though.

If you buy the tickets yourself for the folkshow the will cost $20 each, the office is in the Nikolaevsky Palace, the same place as the show.
