Sounds as if you've been very creative, please report back. I don't know that hotel but know the area--the Upper and Lower Belevederes are connected by a park and the Upper Belevedere has Glimts on display. Looks as if your hotel is just beside the park. Transport connections will be good and between your hotel and the St. Stephan's Place are many of the things you might want to see on foot.

I believe there're plenty of trams that go down Rennweg, so the hotel should still be quite convenient.

And Glimt is Klimt--think I started to type his first name or I just had a brain cramp or a pre-senior moment!

I stayed at Pension City in July and it was just fine. You certainly could not beat it's location. The reception does close at 8pm but you have a key like device that gets you into the building, and the hotel itself. The hotel is the second floor of a building that also houses apartments, lawyers offices, etc. Plus, the owners of the hotel also own a restaurant about a block away and you have that number to call until 1am and then another number if you have an emergency after that. Breakfast began around 7am so staff were there before that.

It wasn't fancy but it sure was convenient and it had everything you could need, I liked having a mini fridge, the breakfast was fine, it was very clean, staff were very pleasant.

hi, willtravel,

we are considering a stay in vienna as part of a longer tour in June, for probably 3-4 nights and your thread came up when I did a search for Vienna accommodation.

How did you get on? would you recommend that place you stayed? good value? position?

we will probably have a car, having flown, we think, into Prague. any parking at the hotel or in the area?

thanks in advance for any help,

regards, ann

AnnH, I think that the hotel does have parking. Did you see that I stayed at Lindner am Belvedere instead of the pensions I mentioned earlier? My review is a few posts up. I would definitely recommend this hotel in every way - I'd say it's one of the nicest places I've stayed in Europe, which is remarkable given the great deal I had. (Keep in mind that I am very budget-oriented, but I occasionally get great deals on 4* or higher hotels).

hi Will,

I just had a look at the Belvedere, and for th edate we want, they are offering about €100 per night, which looks quite a bargain! however, the position doesn't look great, just as you said in your post before you went - how did you find it?

regards, ann

I found the location very good. I went to Musikverein and Theater am der Wien performances on two different nights, and I walked back from both of those. I also walked into the center every day - about 15 minutes or so. Plus it's just down the street from the Belvedere Palace - maybe 100 feet. I did lots of walking on that trip, and took taxis a couple times, but strangely never used public transit at all.

thanks Will

that's more or less what I'd worked out.

if we fly into Bratislava, [which looks probable] we'll be arriving in Vienna on the hydrofoil - now All I've got to do is work out how to get to our hotel [linden or otherwise] from the hydrofoil doc! how much are taxis, approximately?

I think my fares were (but don't hold me to this) about 10 or 11 Euros from Westbahnhof to the hotel, 8 Euros one night from the Christmas market at Rathausplatz, and 6 Euros another night from the Christmas Market to Theater am der Wien. So nothing ridiculous. Oh, and I think about 28 Euros to the Vienna airport from the hotel.

AnnHig, if you check my trip report, there are some more details about the hotel, I think. Also check if the hotel is any cheaper at www.ameropa.de which is where I got my great deal - if you don't mind prepayment and booking in German.

"we'll be arriving in Vienna on the hydrofoil"- ann, you may want to reconsider this. When I did Bratislava-Vienna that was my first plan, but a little checking convinced me to take the train instead. Apparently you can't really see anything from the hydrofoil. If you don't have a car I would suggest looking at hotels/pensions more in the center. (Nossek, Suzanne...)
