CNN just had a story reporting that the State Dept. is calling in Foreign Service Personal from overseas to come help with getting the passport backup cleared up. We were told it's taking 6 months to receive passports now.
We're applying today for our grandson's passport which we'll need in March!

"<i>Is that the 8th of June 2008 or I hope the last day of June in 2008.</i>"
If it says 08 jun 08 it means June 8th. But in the scheme of things, what difference would it make? You are only talking about 22 days.
Maybe you thought you have to wait until a passport expires to renew it. Not the case - in "normal" times you should renew anywhere between 3 and 6 months months ahead depending on your travel plans. But until the current backlog is cleared, renewing 6 or even 9 months ahead is best.

I renewed my passport in April thinking that it would take 10 weeks to get it back. My trip is on September 16th. Planes and hotels confirmed. When should I start calling the passport people? Wait after 12 weeks as they said in the news? I am afraid to get prem tickets now because they are non-refundable, right? Please advise. Thank you.
