I believe the scaffolding is still there - but it was inside the building the last time I was there. One tour guide told me prior to '04 that the scaffolding would be gone for the Olympics but I noticed in NBC's coverage of the Olympics that it was still there. One tour guide told our group that it would be there for 20 years.
Would you skip Athens or the Parthenon if the scaffolding was still there? I hope not - the building and the whole Acropolis are remarkable even with the work going on.

I just returned from a trip to Greece, and while there is scaffolding on the Parthenon, I would not say that it "obstructs the view" in any way. We found all of the Acropolis to be a spectacular site and well worth a few hours.

Heimdall, (for)ever isn't that long ya know.
I was 21yrs and living just outside of Athens when they put the crane up in the middle of the Parthenon.
And they just took it down this past last year...I'm 53 now
. Regards, Walter

It was still there last week when I left..Didn't even gp up as I had seen it sans scaffolding 30 years ago and the night lighting is wonderful from the Plaka. As to skipping the area don't..just look past the reconstruction..A day trip to Temple of Poisidon is interesting and the trip along the coast very beautiful. Save your money because it cost $$$$ in Greece as anywhere in Europe these days, Walk, walk walk in the Plaka..sights, smells and people!!! Couldn't get enough.. Have a good one...amer_can
