Perigueux has a Wednesday market too. Also (and this is important), pick up a walking itinerary of the town (in English) from the tourist office - which is not in the center of the old town, but by a large parking lot.

Perigueux is wonderful !!! - except for the ugly sprawl, as Michael mentioned.

Perigueux: Not sure if we'll be able to get there on a market day, but thinking of going there nevertheless. Any suggestions of what to see once there? Or just walk around, ambling?

Did look up Perigueux on a google map and saw the restaurant l'Essentiel on it. The directions google gave me from Les Eyzies (which is where we're staying) leads us right onto Michelle de Montaigne. Supposed to be an hour's drive.

Looked at your pix, Michael - where is Chateau de Bories?

Will look up where the tourist office is. Thanks Stu. And its history. Thanks, St. Cirq.

The Chateau des Bories is on the road between Périgueux and Excideuil.

The historic section is a great place to amble around and poke your nose in different courtyards. There may even be markers for a self-guided tour. I would check with the tourist office (do not know its location). I also recommend La Vésunna.

I've geo-mapped the Chateau des Bories. It can be toured, although it is a lesser chateau, but it has one thing in its favor: the kitchen is still the original, with all the soot that accumulated over the centuries (that was a few of years ago).

The tourist office is clearly market on the Green Michelin Guide - which you should have. It is on the east side of a hugh parking lot on Pl Francheville. The English walking itinerary is one of the best we've encountered in France.

Do you have my 20+ page itinerary for the Dordogne?? If not, e-mail me at [email protected] & I'll attach one to the reply e-mail. Do so today or tomorrow - on Tues we leave for vacation in Europe for 3 weeks.
