Paris with 13 year old, pool and florist question.

Hi,

Im a new member, this is my first post, so please give advice on how to get more info if this is already covered

I am going with my son, 13 months to Paris in december, and I am thrilled already.

I know my son to love the pool, I take him to public pools back home (Bergen, Norway) once or twice a week. Where do you think I can take him in Paris? Any price-range is ok, as long as the pool is toddler-friendly: warm.

I have an additcion for flowers, and would like to visit some top floral artists shops while in Paris. Anyone know some good adresses?

I heard they have a water park downtown in Paris. They should have a kids section.

Disney World has child stuff. I have not been to the Paris one, but the one in Florida does.

I just did a google.com search for public swimming pools in Paris and got 215 hits. You might want to start there.

Loveling,

First, let me welcome you to the board and I hope you get as much great information here as I have over the years!

I thought I had read a thread on pools in Paris a while ago and here it is:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2

I may be telling you something you already know, but the way I found that was to type "Paris pool" in the search box at the top of the page when I was in the Europe forum. It was the 19th thread to be displayed. But I knew what I was looking for and kept scrolling down.

I just tried the same for florists, but didn't find anything. By the way, I have never seen anything like the wonderful and inventive florists in Scandinavia, so you may be a bit dissappointed?

Have a great trip to Paris!

LisaG

There are lots of public pools in Paris, a couple I know of are in Montparnasse, one in the Latin Qtr on rue Pontoise, and I think there is one in Forum des Halles shopping center, also. I know there are more, but those are the ones I'm most familiar with. There is a big water park, Aquaboulevard, but that's on the edge of Paris at the bottom of the 15th arrondisement. It's closed in January for work, but appears to be open in December

Not that I'm recommending you stay there really, as it's on the edge, but just for information.

This is the website of the Club Quartier Latin which is right near Notre Dame and would be convenient if you stay around there.

Your son might like that area, also, for a hotel stay.

I think the pool at Montparnasse is inside that shopping center at the tower. That would also be another convenient area to stay for a lot of reasons.

Here is the City of Paris website's section that lists all the public pools, you can find one by arrondisement.

Thank you, Lisa G and Christina, I now found the previos post

I have tried to figure out if the public pools have special pools for children. As my french is rather on the "non-existing" side, I am not sure, but I think none of them have. Its no big deal really, he is able to go in the normal pool also. (Soom to be a big boy: 1 year old

I do not think I will go to Disneyland as that would be very far and expensive for a dip.

That lives me with the Aquaboulevard, if I feel he needs a toddlers pool. I stay in the 9th, so I guess that is also far, but do-able.

THANK YOU ALL!

With regard to the florist question, you might want to check out Odorantes (9 Rue Madame). I recalled reading this article in the Times last year and dragged it up for you as a welcome to Fodors!

I know that both Montparnasse and Les Halles have children's basins next to the big pool.

I remembered Adam Gopnick wrote about swimming with his toddler in his book, Paris to The Moon. A quick check at Amazon shows they swam at the public pool in the 4th Arrondissement and at the pool at the Ritz. One of the stories features their amusing experience at the Ritz. The book is an account of a young American family living in Paris, and may have some other ideas for you as well.

I don't know who the top florists are, but the French can make even the simplist flowers into a special bouquet with their beautiful french silk ribbons.

Two florists that I have read about are Christian Tortu at 6 Carrefour de l'Odeon (6th arr.) and Marianne Robic, 39 rue Babylone (7th) (who is one of Oprah's favorites).

I have seen the shop on Odeon and it was stunning!

I've also ready that the flowers at the 4 Seasons Hotel are worth the stop there.

Enjoy!

I personally think Adam Gopnik was pretty elitist and that wasn't any real slice of life in Paris. Swimming at the Ritz isn't the norm.

The title of your post refers to a 13 year old. Hadn't noticed that before.

Monceau Fleurs is the #1 florist chain in Paris. Some of the employees are extremely artful and others quite ordinary. But they are definitely the best value for money for buying flowers in Paris.

I second Christian Tortu at 6 Carrefour de l'Odeon (6th arr.). While we were staying in Paris for our 25th anniversary my parents had the hotel get us flowers and champagne. I am sure the flowers came from the shop across the Carrefour.

I assume you are needing a heated pool since you are going to be there in December?

This is getting really good!

LJ: the coppola page is really good. I am altso in love with stationary, and I found a listing of that as well. Thank you!

Very pleased to know that Montparnasse and Les Halles has toddler pools, and even the rizt! Mayby I'll treat us with a visit, one must indulge in some luxury even with a baby.

I did not realize until now my title is incorrect.. classic first time mistake I try to say to myself

About the florists:
I visited the pages of 4 Seasons Hotel, and whoooo! Hope I can sneak in, or have a meal there.

Christian Tortu is really a master, I did not know him, and googled him. So exeptional!

Marianne Robic, I googled her, and find a lot of her works, and even pages with other floral artists in Paris. That was most most helpful tip!
