Tailsock -- thank you for the marvelous TR in blog format with stellar photographs! I'll be heading to Paris in Sept and am hoping for better weather. Chopin, Van Gogh and Hemingway will be the focus of my explorations in and around Paris (with impressionist museums, as well). I really want to minimize contact with scammers & pickpockets. I've dealt with them before by acting like I didn't understand English (or French) and kept walking. But it's just unpleasant to encounter these people. I've traveled in Europe with DSLR, but this trip, I'm exploring the possibility of a Canon G1X or Olympus E-PL5 (micro 4/3). I just don't want to haul around the excess weight and bulk this time.

it comes with the territory Susan
I actually got busted pretending not to speak English. There was a guy in Lisbon that tried to sell me pot and I mumbled some gibberish that kinda sounded like a cross between French and German. He mumbled back the exact same thing the exact same way. whoa!
