Great pix, tailsock. Did I miss the model of Nikon that you used? You night shots were very clear!

Hub and I almost always traveled in March-we traded cooler weather for fewer people. He lamented the lack of up to the minute basketball scores!

Just got to your London report and see that you cite the cameras so, never mind!

My morning coffee and a fun look at my favorite city---too bad I don't have one of those fantastic baguettes to go with it.

Thanks for taking me along. Great photos, especially the night photos which are so hard to get right. I enjoyed visiting some of our favorite places along with some new areas for us.

Great report! Interesting you found it more expensive than london! We do as well but there seems to be this firmly held belief that London is so expensive...

Yea, i REALLY expected London to be far more expensive with the conversion rate but there were several factors that tipped the scales the other way:
1. our breakfast was always included in our room rate in London
2. we had 2for1 discounts in London
3. we burned through carnets (10 metro tickets) faster than i anticipated
4. National Gallery and British Museum were free in London
5. i had to buy new dress shoes in Paris

i couldn't beleive my wife when she tallied up our expenses when we returned and told me we spent more in Paris. :-)

Don't you just love the free museums?! Last time we were in London, we had some time to spare before catching our train and popped into the National Gallery for 1/2 hr - something I would never do if I just paid $20 for admission.

Love the report, thanks for posting. I think my favorite picture is the one of the perfectly in-focus sandwich, with that big, fuzzy church in the background. ;-)

I was thinking just the other day to keep an eye out for your Paris report, and then this morning - there it was. It was worth the wait ! I'm about half way through reading it (work and life get in the way) but am really enjoying it.
Your pictures are fantastic once again, just as they were for London and Brussels; maybe you've covered this in the part I haven't read yet, but if you liked the Art Nouveau entrance signs to the Metro stations, I'm hoping you got to see the beautiful and artistic interiors and platform decor of some of them. A feast for your camera !

Looking forward to enjoying the rest of your report - perhaps with a strong coffee and flaky croissant at hand.

you're always very kind and your support is much appreciated. i did recall seeing more decor in the Paris stations but i didn't get much of it captured. When i reviewed the 3 folders worth of photos (i took just over 3000 photos there) most of the stations looked the same. Tons of advertisements on the walls with little variation... i don't remember which ones were the really attractive ones but there were a couple

Here is a link to a thread (photo essay) about some of the more beautiful/interesting Metro stations in Paris. The thread is from another travel forum and was written and photographed by Kerouac, who lives in Paris, and is also a frequent poster here on Fodors. He originally alerted us to it by way of a post, but I couldn't find it so I am linking you directly to the thread. It's really very good.

I was fortunate to read it before I went to Paris last October, so was able to make sure that I got to see some of them. Hope the link works. There are 3 pages of it so make sure you begin at page 1 as the link sometimes opens on page 3.

Really enjoying your blog!! I just wanted to ask about he offline GPS app you mentioned in your blog, what's the name of it? and how did you find it worked?

The name of the app is called CityMaps2go. The way it works is you download cities before you go and plot all of your places of interest, hotels, restaurants etc. Then when you arrive you have a fully functional map complete with GPS that doesn't require any cellular data. It's 100% offline. It worked wonderfully. I also suggest Metro.. another offline map that takes two stations or places of interest and tells you which trams/subways to take, how long, and where to change lines.
