When I took my 11 year old daughter to Europe, we bought postcards wherever we went, and she glued them into her journal (bring a small glue stick) and then wrote about it underneath. I think it made the journal-writing more exciting for her. We just brought a gallon-size zip-lock bag to store her journal, glue stick, pens, and collectibles.

What an *excellent* idea - I took the idea for the journal to heart (thank you) and that is going to be under the Christmas tree. NOW - I need to go find my glue sticks for putting things inside the pages besides merely text.
It should end up as a mini-scrapbook of an amazing adventure - now that I think of it, she can also glue in ticket stubs, parts of brochures from places... A complete memory book!

*giggles* - I must admit, I'm now getting into the FRANTIC phase... I've packed my bag, as has Kristen, and we're trying to remember what we forgot!!!!!!!!
I hope there is an iron somewhere in the hotel we are staying in. If not, I will be an embarassed American tourist.
Also, I realized after the clothing purchases that I intend to go NOWHERE without my trusty camera, so I'm sure I'll appear a tourist under all circumstances. BUT, what the heck, we WILL be tourists!!!
I fully intend to take a massive amount of photos (need them for my work), and I definitely will be posting a trip report. I've a feeling it will not be nearly as entertaining as Lynn's, but she has a TRUE gift for writing!
Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
