Paris transportation questions regarding airports

Assuming our trip goes off as planned unless the volcano decides to erupt again...we are landing in Paris via Frankfort on Tues May12th at 10:00am. We are staying at the Marriott on the Champs Elysees. Is a taxi the easiest way to get to our hotel? I know not the cheapest but how bad could it be?
Then on the 18th we are flying ORLY to Rome @ 9:35am. Same situation, is hiring a taxi from the hotel the least stressful way to go?

Thank you!

yes, it is the easiest, of course.

I usually take a taxi, it's not that bad--probably around 50 euro.

yes, it is the less stressful way to go, what could be easier? If someone is going to claim a shuttle is less "stressful", I would disagree as you never know for sure if they are going to show up and on time. A taxi you don't have to worry and at that hotel, you won't have any trouble getting one.

I don't mean to be rude buy you are spending thousands of dollars on airfare and deluxe hotel accommodation... why are you worried about a 55 euro cab ride?

The Air France bus to Etoile would be just up the street and the walk to the hotel downhill. I think it's about 12.50 euros.

I was just wondering if there were some other suggestions OR said the taxi idea to the airport is a horror story for whatever reason...you never know, so thought I would ask! We have had some questionable experiences with taxis within Paris, but that was expected.
You're right, I am not concerned about the 55euro charge...especially since we are using FF miles for 1st class & Marriott points for the stay! Wuuuhoooo..now if the skies just clear.
Thank you for confirming what I thought would be best...but I may look into that Air France bus also! Merci

<<We have had some questionable experiences with taxis within Paris, but that was expected.>>

It was?? Why? I have never, in more than 100 trips to Paris, had a "questionable experience" with a Parisian taxi.

At any rate, yes, taxi is the easiest.

FYI:

Air France bus #2 from CDG to Charles de Gaulle-Etoile: €15.

According to viamichelin.com, it's 0.8km from Charles de Gaulle-Etoile to your hotel and the walk should take around 12 minutes.

Taxi is the most convenient way to go to your hotel. It is very difficult to walk with your luggage.
Nevertheless, you can send an email to Marriott in order to know if they can recommend you a private shuttle, or book for you a taxi waiting for you at the airpot.

I am always amazed when the people staying in 4 and 5 star hotels (the 5 star category was finally created in France) ask about ways to get there from the airport. If I could stay in such hotels, I would not hesitate one moment to take a taxi.

St.Cirq,
I only say "expected" not because it was Paris but because I am sure many people have experienced the long-way-around method of some drivers to pump up the fee. If you are a newbie to a city I think that is obvious & if you happen to have a less than honest driver it can cost you extra time & money. We hired a taxi to go from our hotel to the Père Lachaise Cemetery. My husband had his GPS & asked if we could take a certain route. Driver emphatically said no way, impossible...so 50 euro later we arrived at the cemetery. On the return trip, different taxi, my husband asked the same thing..no problem, direct route, 18 euro. So, it happens..in any city; the more knowledgeable the traveler, I'm sure the likely! And how amazing you have made more than 100 trips to Paris!
Thank you TimS for the information, it is good to know about alternatives, in case the taxi drivers are on strike!

I certainly agree that a taxi is the most convenient option. However, for those of us who pack light, walking with one's luggage is not difficult at all.

I agree a taxi is most convenient. And I'm spending money in Paris and the fare does not contribute that much and beats walking from the RER or bus stop. I did use ShuttleInter last trip and was very glad I did as there was a big tie up on the road into Paris and the fare would have been almost doubled. And they arrived at our apt. for the return trip well ahead of the prescribed time.!And you don;t have to call them from the airport

avalon--Sometimes you do need to call Shuttle Inter from the airport...when they don't show up as scheduled That happened to us last summer. Took 3 phone calls. Then they stood us up for the return trip.

PeggyE:

I've experienced something like that, once, in Rome, but never in Paris. I have had taxi drivers tell me they couldn't take the route I requested, but there was always a good reason - strikes with workers marching in the streets, déviations for construction, bomb scares, etc. Maybe it's because I can converse fluently with the drivers. I am definitely more wary when traveling in places I don't speak the language.

Just make sure you take an official Taxi Parisien from the airport taxi stand and ignore anyone who walks up to you and asks if you want a taxi.

Bonne route.

kerouac...I am not hesitating for a moment to hire a taxi, I was only asking for general information and good/bad input from more knowledgeable travelers to Paris. After all, that is why we post!
And thank you cachemire for the idea of emailing the Marriott!

St. Cirg...I'm sure you know I meant to say "the more knowledgeable the traveler, I'm sure the LESS likely"..
and thanks for the tip on "Taxi Parisien"!

Hi Peggy-the only other thing I would take into consideration might be the time of day. I usually take cabs to from the airport, but at high peak hours I sometimes even take a cab within Paris to gare du nord and then hop on the RER just to make sure I don't get stuck in horrendous traffic. One time it took almost an hour just to work our way into the north part or the peripherique and that can be painful

I too have been to Paris a few times and never yet had a "questionable experience" with a Parisian taxi.

Mind you I have never used one, either

Frankly, I do not take taxis in Paris. On the rare occasions where it cannot be avoided, I have found that the immigrant drivers are totally reliable, and the French drivers must be watched at all times.
