Paris transport

Hi, We are arriving in Paris at the Charles de Gaulle airport and staying on the Rue de Cler. I am trying to find the best route to get to our hotel, without having to pay for the expensive hotel shuttle.
Also, we will arrive on a Sunday. Is it true that the Rue de Cler shuts down on Mondays??
Thank you very much!

Hi

I guess it should be possible to use public transportation. Have you looked at http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/e...rtsEnCommuns/? . My wife and I are going to Paris in April so I guess we will use this option and the metro to get to our hotel

Regards

Per Rick Steves, Paris 2006, page 159

Roissy buses run every 15-20 minutes (Euro 8.50). You'll arrive at a bus swtop on rue Scribe at the American Express office, on the left side of the Opera building. To get to the Metro entrance, turn left out of the bus and head towards the front of the Opera. Take the #8 line (direction: Balard) to La Tour Maubourg or Ecole Militaire.

The reference I gave is wrong. It is France 2006 (not Paris 2006).

I'm just curious, but what expensive hotel shuttle are you talking about for a hotel on rue Cler? I have never heard of any hotel that runs their own shuttle except those near the airport, but none of the hotels on rue Cler are very upscale and I'm sure they don't have their own shuttles.

If you mean a shuttle your hotel referred you to, what was the name and price?

Or you can ride the train RER B to Luxembourg and then the N° 82 bus to École Militaire.

All the choices are spelled out at http://tinyurl.com/7nspo

I have taken the AirFrance bus from CDG to Invalides (on the left bank). Then it would be subway or a relatively short taxi ride. See

http://www.discoverfrance.net/France...s2.shtml#AFbus

I have also taken the RER from CDG and then subway to the left bank
(to a hotel 3 blocks away from Rue Cler). Both worked well.

Check the subway map to see which drop off point gives you the best subway route.

Have a great trip!

Um, the Air France buses from CDG go to Porte Maillot, Étoile, Gare de Lyon, and Gare Montparnasse.

It is the Orly AF bus that goes to Invalides.

I arrived on a Monday and yes, rue Cler closed down by about 1:00pm. I didn't pay too much attention to all the stores but I know the grocer closed (just made it to get some stuff for my apt). However, this was in 2002 so things may have changed.

As Ira mentioned, the Paris Shuttle is a great deal. Again, it was 2002 but it was only $22/person/one way (I was alone so it may be cheaper for 2) and no hassle with bags. I wouldn't even consider getting off a long plane ride and figuring out the bus/metro/train system. Save a few bucks somewhere else.

We took a cab from CDG to the Relais Bosquet right by Rue Cler. The taxi was 44 Euros, which we rounded up to 50 to include a tip. Honestly, you think you will feel okay after getting off the plane, okay enough to deal with public transport, but really, you may very well feel terrible. Getting a taxi, especially since you have 2 people, is not really anymore expensive than the shuttle services. Public transportation is certainly cheaper, but I would not want the hassle of dealing with baggage on the metro, having to carry suitcases up the metro's many stairs, and risk getting pickpocketed when tired and overloaded with luggage. Just my .02.

The euros for a cab are worth it. Sometimes it takes only 20 minites.
You can sit back relax, close your wyes and feel refreshed on arrival.

I have done the RER and subway to that area several times.

I find it not to be problem and actually it keeps me more awake then sitting in traffic does.
