I hope to spend 3 days in Paris and then head off to Piedmont, returning from Milan 2 weeks later. Any suggestions on the best ways to travel from Paris to Piedmont, e.g., fast trains or fly? Suggestions on websites to make these reservations? [Since I will be driving all through Piedmont, the "landing" city from Paris is not important.]

Do you mean "Piemonte", the area around Torino in Northeast Italy?

What time of year will you go? (It's important, because the most spectacular route is to take the "route des grandes alpes", however only open in summer.

They fly Paris Orly to Turin as well as Milan Linate.

Also Paris CDG to Milan Malpensa.

Ryanair has very cheap flights from Paris to Milan, but in both cases the airport is way out of town. Check on www.trenitalia.com for trains, there is an English international version, sometimes they are having Torino - Parigi specials.

Hi. are you considering renting a car. If not I'd fly to milan or Turin and then rent a car. To really get around the piedmont area {like Tuscany} you need a rental car or go on a tour. The train stations are fairly spred out. The best places are reached by car. I would recommend staying around the La Morra, Barolo area it ws very pretty.
