Paris to Grasse?

Is this do-able in one day? Is Grasse even worth visiting? I find the idea of all that perfume being made rather intriguing. Anyone have any thoughts to share?

Do you mean to Grasse and back to Paris in one day? Definitely not.

Hi Kay,

I agree with above poster about Grasse. It's a very congested town. You can take a Fragonard perfumery tour outside of Grasse and avoid all the traffic in town. Other towns in the are which are more delightful are: Tourettes-sur-Loup, an artisan's town, located between Grasse and St-Paul-de-Vence; St-Paul-de-Vence, although very touristy it's a wonderful place (arrive early); Vence with the Matisse chapel; Biot (not the glass blowing factory but the perched village).

If you're going to Grasse just for the perfume tour you can stay in Paris and see the same thing. Fragonard has a perfume tour at their facility near the Opera Garnier (rue Scribe). After the tour you can buy products in their shop which is attached. They have a web site (fragonard.com) which lists the tours and the times.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Adrienne
[email protected]
Mo sgortage of interesting places nearby there, though. I've been to Grasse too, and can speak just as highly (if not more so) of Montauroux - - about 20 miles down the road.

And if you're going to that part of the Var, do NOT miss the Corniche de l'Esterel.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Okay, I'm in the minority here, but I thought Grasse was really pretty, and I enjoyed walking through the Fragonard "factory" tour. They were making soap that day, so that's what we saw, but I like looking at big vats and chemicals in glass bottles and seeing how flowers turn into something to use or wear. I also loved going to the Moulinard showroom as well.

Having said all that, I wouldn't go from Paris to Grasse to do it. But if you're in Cannes, it's a convenient side trip. Otherwise, as Adrienne said, the one off rue Scribe will work just as well. Then you can go to Giverny in one day, check out Monet's house, and see loads of flowers!
