Paris Street Fashion: the hat of the moment

What has emerged from watching the fashion cognoscenti attending the Paris Fall/Winter collections 2012 is the popularity of the Jil Sander veiled hat.

You can view it here--modeled by fashion editor Anna Della Russo--at www.streetpeeper.com

OR

You can view it at the NY Times--just have a look at Bill Cunningham's fashion video entitled "Sun Spots."

The hat reminds me of the Phrygian Cap worn during the French Revolution.

I can see Madame Defarge wearing a similar hat to the trial of Dr. Manet!!!

Maybe you will want to wear a similar cap if you are going to Paris (like our dear friends Mimi and gomiki).

Your old, old friend,
Pepper

I think you should refrain from emphasizing your age, Baby, anmd thanks for the fashion advice. It is so much wonderfully more advanced than the usual clamor about what to wear.

And the woman wearing the latest-thing hat is also wearing a bright orange top! Can color be coming to Paris?

Dear Pepper, thank you for the fashion forward (or is it backward) chapeaux update. Ironically, a new hat is on my shopping list.

My husband and I watched Bill's video yesterday and commented on the veiled hat. I think Paris is the only place to pull that off. Dallas? Not so much.

Hi Pepper I noticed those veiled fasinaters and hats on the many blogs I view. They're not for me bacause they'll shorten my already short height. Color blocking is the other common trend. Than Anna della russo is today's Anna Piaggi.
Dukey, thin is not old!

Well, Mimi, I see you in a floppy hat with tassels a la Carine!

Or maybe something from Pauline Trigere?

Bon soir,
Pepper

That's color-blocking? Black and one bright color? Well, maybe they wean themselves off the black slowly.

I like the hat. I like the orange top. Those earrings with that hat? Not so much.

Well, Anna Della Russo gets her photo posted on every fashion blog in the world. She is a fashion Super Star and the editor of Vogue Nippon.

She, like Anna Piaggi, is so over-the-top that everyone pays attention to her.

You gotta do something to get Bill Cunningham or Scott Schuman to take your photo!!!

I like to walk around 5th Ave and 57th St in my Brioni opera cape and Battistoni cravat, but Bill never pays any attention to me.

But, he does like Cousin Muffy and her Fortuny bag--that bag really does belong in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Tschuss,
Pepper

Has anyone seen Bill's most recent shoe video? OMG! I could never walk, or probably even stand, in any of them.

I do love the hat, though. I finally have a haircut that I can wear hats with and look half decent. Think I'll go out and buy me one

I'm sorry but am I the only who thinks ADR reminds me of an eccentric grandma minus the clumsily applied red lipstick?

Well, Mellen, those women don't actually wear those shoes either.

It is widely known that these women carry a pair of flats or trainers in a little shopping bag and change out of their towering inferno shoes as soon as they are out of sight of the photographers.

And people like Giovanna Battaglia, Anna DR, Daphne Guiness, Candy Pratts Price, and Sarah Rutson all have waiting limos so they don't walk very far.

I don't think ADR looks like a granny, by the way. She has a killer bod. She looks like she does pilates 4 hours a day--I think even Madonna is jealous.

Love you, hate your shoes,
Pepper

Yes, Bill even photographed one of them sitting on some steps, barefoot, with the shoes parked nearby. That was about the only photo I could relate to!

Let's hope our dear friend, Mimi, posts on what style trends she sees in Paris this week.

Bon soir,
