Suggest reading Ina Caro's "Paris to the Past" - it's all Paris side trips by train.

But my top pick would be Chartres.

If you like champagne, then Reims is an easy trip. Provins and Chantilly are also close.

With fast trains, these days you could do Nancy or Strasbourg as day trips, although they really deserve longer.

See Annabel Sims’ Hour from Paris and Half Hour From Paris. I also like the gardens at Seaux (nearby) and Rouen (farther), though I would second Nancy.

Taken May 19th.
Mid-April, not sure; mid-May, yes.

k marie has mentioned FMT. If I were in Paris and the weather was good, I'd love to take one of FMT's bike tours into the countryside or along the Marne river.

Versailles is a good trip- very easy by RER. We also went to Giverny, Monet's house. The town of Giverny is also very charing. The state of the gardens very much depends on the time of year you'll be there.
