I think this new verification system asking for your last 4 digits of your SSN is related to a security process called Verisign or something, for Visa and MC. I encountered it recently on the SNCF website, also, it isn't some scam. This is separate from the usual security code on your CC back/front that most vendors ask for.

I must be one of the lucky ones as I've been taking cabs to/From Paris to CDG for maybe 20 yrs and in all that time, I think the fare was 55 euro only once recently, and that was really some unusual traffic issue where the center of Paris was really blocked up, I forget why. And I usually go to Montparnasse which is a lot farther than a lot of people go. I don't think the fare has ever been below 45 euro recently, though.

IN any case, I would presume a shared shuttle would always cost less than a taxi if you were only one person, of course. If I were traveling with someone else, it wouldn't be worth it to me in the hopes of maybe saving a few euro, and probably not. But some people just can't deal with fares varying by the meter, it makes them too nervous, and they want a flat fare even if it may be no savings at all, or cost a bit more. That's okay, it does provide more security in terms of the dollar amount (but maybe not whether they will actually show up and the other things you have to do to plan for them).

Ira....why would anyone need the last 4 of your social for a CC transaction? It is out of the ordinary and any reasonable person should be reluctant to provide that information. The question is why doesn't that disturb YOU?

The first 3 of your social correspond with where you were born...info that criminals seem to be able to get easily (and if you give them the last 4 you would probably give them the place of your birth) and if you give them the last 4, then they have very little work to do to steal your identity.

Even babies are having their identities stolen these days, so better to be safe than sorry. I wouldn't do business with a site asking for my last 4 and my CC number.

Whatever form of transportation that I decide on I enter the situation with a positive attitude that I will get to where I need to go. If something comes up, then I just move on to Plan B; as in the time when the taxi didn't show up on the my way back to CDG. So, it was just move on to Plan B and have my Parisian friend go back up into his apartment and call another taxi company so that we could take a different taxi to CDG. Or when the RER train broke down in the station, on my way back to CDG, and when I finally got out, then I just took a taxi the rest of the way. Stuff happens.

I just have enough extra emergency money on me so that if Plan A doesn't happen, then I move on to Plan B. I've been going to Paris, almost annually, 1-2 times a year since 1976 and out of all the forms of transportation that I have taken; buses, RER/metro, taxi, and shuttles, I have always eventually gotten to my destination point. And as far as I'm concerned, that's all that matters. Life moves on. Happy Travels!

Next time in Paris, try this company www.parisanyway.com
They are very orgnanised people, young and fun as well.
Always good to start your trip with a car on time. The most important is that you don't pay in advance, which is for me the best way to trust the company... Happy travel

I think it's always good to have a backup plan for transportation, but it's easy from the airport as the backup plan can just be a taxi.

Nothing in the SSN indicates where you were born. The last four digits are meaningless, they are just a sequential number assigned as people apply. The first 3 have to do with the part of the country where you applied or the zip code where your application came from, not where you were born.
