Paris Restaurant Recommendations - $$

We will be in Paris for 3 nights in June with our three kids (ages 10-18). We are staying on the border of the 5th (Latin) and 6th (St Germain) on Saint Michels. I'm looking for restaurants either near our apartment OR near our last planned event for the day. I don't want to spend 500 every night so thinking moderate range.

Day one we will likely end up at Montparnasse Tower.
Day two we will end at the Eiffel Tower.
Day three we will end near Arc De Triomphe.

Would love some recommendations. Thinking mostly French but open to other ideas. Also, if someone has lunch recommendations near the Louvre or in the 6th arr would also be helpful.

Thank you!

Hungryonion.org has all the Paris experts (they moved there after Chowhound closed down). Wouldn’t hurt to ask them. Big mamma pizza is a great chain with quality pizza but looks like they’re all located on the right bank.

A couple of suggestions that are both moderate in price and about a 5-minute walk from the Tour Montparnasse:

The traditional Bouillon Chartier Montparnasse has an extensive menu with selections that would please most, including kids. It's on the Boulevard du Montparnasse.

There are several traditional Breton crêperies on the Rue du Montparnasse (not the Boulevard). A savory buckwheat galette followed by a sweet crêpe is a very satisfying meal. We like the Crêperie Plougastel and we have been there on three visits with different kids, all in the age range of yours, who have enjoyed it.

Just a bit of background, the Gare Montparnasse is the train line that goes to Brittany. Because of that, the neighborhood is historically Breton, with many of the train workers living nearby, hence the huge number of places serving galettes and crepes. I am not sure if it matters which one you choose, but there is a reason that the tiny r. du Montparnasse (mentioned by MaineGG) is such a charming street lined with about ten creperies.

I believe you’re staying in the 5th and the only restaurant I know at this point is Les Papilles a very popular spot that we had to reserve long ago. Here’s a list I found that may have some casual places that teenagers would like in the evening. We’ve stayed in the upper 3rd for years and all my fave restaurant’s are in the 3rd and 11th. Good luck.

Hi Amy0221,

I wonder what time your family normally eats dinner. Many Paris restaurants close between lunch & dinner, so that could have an impact.

For instance, one of my favorite restaurants is L' Ami Jean at 27 Rue Malar, near the Eifel Tower, but it closes between 2 pm & 7 pm. If you do choose to go there, you should make reservations asap, as the chef is a rising star and very popular.

Near the Louvre, I would head for La Bourse et la Vie (about a 10-minute walk), which is well known for its steak/frites. And they are holding a special promotion to benefit Ukrainian refugees.... from 4 April for 2 months, Ukrainians will control the kitchen and serve Ukrainian food. They are calling it La Borscht et la Vie.

I'll post again as more ideas come to me...

Have fun as you plan!

Near Eiffel Tower - Fontaine du Mars, Les Cocottes, both on rue St. Dominique
Arc de Triomphe - Entrecôte/ Relais de Venice (salad plus steak and frites) near Porte Maillot (quick walk from ADT)

Lunch near the Louvre - try Le Castiglione on Rue St. Honore

Les Papilles only has a set menu per day, so as much as we love it, wouldnt take 10-18s there (ages of our grandkids who are great eaters) -- Le Cosi in 5th, Cafe Bullier in 14th, Le Petit St. Benoit or Au Pied de Fouet both in 7th near ET or Arc. (Le Petit been open since 1901 and a fave of foodwriter David Liebowitz - no resv - cl Sun) We always do Polidor in the 5th near Sorbonne just because of its history and near our hotel). Kids would love Laduree for treats on the Champs right below Arc. Walk to Ile St Louis to Berthillon for icecream and dinner at I'Ilot Vache which is great and fairly reasonable. Check Paris by Mouth and Gayot guide for details and further recommendations.
