Paris--off the beaten path

Other than the major sites, can anyone suggest some non-tourist type things for a group of 18 year olds to see and do in Paris?

Thank you.

I'm not sure how much time you have that you would give up some of the good "tourist type" things to do in favor of those which are not favored by tourists.
Two things that come to mind that most teens would really enjoy are the sewer tour and the Catacombs -- but they are "tourist type" things to do.

Thanks Patrick. My daughter and several of the kids have been to Paris which is why they want to do something different. I know she hasn't done the sewer or the Catacombs and would enjoy that even though it's touristy.

Anyone else?

Hi J,

For how long will they be in Paris?

Would they be interested in some jazz clubs?

I agree with the rollerblading. There's actually an official website, too. Might want to search this forum to see if it's in these pages or Google it.

If you're there in winter, suggest ice-skating at Eiffel or Hotel de Ville.

We love French Karaoke, too.

We found a wonderful walk by the Marne river - it was suggested on this site. Take the RER from Gare Est (I think) to pont-joinville. About a 20 minute train ride. We headed towards the river which was visible from the exit of the train station. We walked up river for about 2 hours watching the swans, kids canoeing. It is beautiful. Then we walked back towards where we thought the train station would be and voila - it was right there. We were three stations east of where we started. Definitely a nice way to spend a few hours.

I think the Rollerblading site is
www.pari-roller.com
or
www.pari-rollers.com

They do list places to rent skates. It's a very intense, fast-paced skate along city streets for 3 hours. They need to be GOOD on those roller-blades, as there is a sea of people skating by at a fast clip.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. She's in Barcelona and heading to Paris tomorrow and I have emailed all the info. Typical for her age--planning ahead means 24 hour notice!
