Au Gourmand pix are lucious. Just talked with a new friend who is back from her first trip to Paris. She went immediately to Whole Foods to talk to the cheese folks! She has the "sighs" for Paris. Just like your photos are giving me!

You like to try new places, but when you can eat like this, it is hard not to want to go back..like the Constants..but the added thing for the Constants, for me, is that they are so nearby.

When walking from the Spring Boutique to Au Gourmand last night I saw an Italian restaurant, Fellini, on l'Arbre-Sec (same street as the boutique. I just looked in Zagat to see if it was in there..I was surprised that it was. Good things said.I may give it a try! Also a 15th location..guess that would be closer to me.

a bientot..

Joan

I loved your pictures. Au Gourmand looks like I should put it on my list. I was looking at the Dec. issue of the Food and Wine magazine . In the article that the editor writes she had a list of 3 must do restaurants. Two are in London and the third was L"Obe in Paris. I loved that restaurant and enjoyed Frederick. I thought that was interesting!! I am already thinking of my next trip to Paris and i am barley unpacked.

summagold,

The Constant restaurants will be open for New Year's Eve. Many places open that night..from biggies on down. Should be festive.

sueb08

That's interesting about l'Obe!!..that's what we all do..start planning the next trip!!

a bientot..

Bonjour...

It is so warm, you can't believe it..

Went for breakfast and to Davoli on rue cler. Bought chou farcie and potatoe dauphinois!

There is a brocante on rue cler and surrounding streets today and tomorrow. I found porcelain knob heaven..only 4 euros each! I carry very little cash with me..use my CapOne..had to bring my Davooli purchases home and pick up some cash. Meeting Florent cown that way for cafe soon and then will buy my knobs!! Voila...

talk to you later..maybe will take some pics of my knobs!!

a bientot..

Sueb08- Would you mind giving me the reason for "Never again via Amsterdam"? Also - what airline?
Sorry Joan, this could mean a final decision for me!

tod,

I think Sue flew AF direct from Detroit and then back via Amsterdam. The problem in Amsterdam seemed to be re her connecting flight at some far off departure area that was confusing for her to understand..she said she was very stressed by the ordeal and would not carre to go that way again...she may get back on and explain more to you..but this is the what I have....

Joan, one more question! do you have another apt recommendation besides ParisPerfect apts? unfortunately they only have one availbe, the Grenache, which is available December 26-January 2 (7 nights; renting for €345/night). Beyond our budget and not really our dates in Paris. Thanks in advance!

Hi Joan,
Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was to do with the airline itself but no matter, I put a message on the FLIGHTS board and got an extremely useful tip about searching for a flight through KAYAK. Well would you believe it, the same flights came up with Transat(direct) but at $3188 for 2 - a saving of $2,780 than through the Travel Agent. It's for Club Class which I think we can live with.

Your porcelain knobs are sooooooo beautiful! Reminds me of the colours in the tile house numbers in BHV that everyone talked about on your last trip. We went and got two lots but ashamed to say, have not put them up!
Well done with the knobs!

That is a big savings!! Can do a lot with that!

They had so many knobs at the brocante. I did buy some knobs at BHV on last trip. I have them installed. I may be changing some of them. They had tons of these. I think 4 euros is a good buy, don't you?

I thought you needed the Amsterdam info quickly..it had nothing to do with the airlines, it seems..just not very convenient for her.

I am fixing my purchases from Davoli now....

a bientot...

Hi Joan,

Wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post your daily adventures and your pics! I was there in May and stayed at 165 rue de Grenelle (which I have since learned that she sold her apartment - sigh) and I wondered if you ever ate at 7eme Sud at 159 rue de Grenelle? I had the best eggplant lasagne there!

Joan thanks so much! I just emailed them and hope to get a response about their rates and availability. Can you also recommend a hotel or apt close to Oberkampf/Placa de la Bastille area? We wanted to stay close to nightlife. I was told that was a "happening" place. Do you think it is seedy during the day? And can we walk there from Arc de Triomphe? I ask this because we think we want to be among the millions celebrating NYE by Arc de Triomphe, and methinks the metro in Paris is not 24/7.
