I have to get to station Trocadéro, where my hotel is near, from Charles de Gaulle airport. Would someone be so kind as to give me step by step instructions to do so? Thanks!

I can't give you a step by step guide. But you have to the RER B train into Paris and get of at a station that it convinient to get to Trocadéro. Maybe get of at Denfert Rocherau and take the metro to Bir Hakeim and walk from there. My wife and I went to Paris in April and we took the train into Paris. 1. you could take the Air France coach to Arc de Triomphe/Etoile, then either a taxi to Trocadero, or metro line 6 from Etoile to Trocadero.

2. you could take RER-B to Denfert Rochereau, then metro line 6 to Trocadero. (or a taxi from D-R, but #1 would be closer for that).

Another option
Take Roissybus from CDG to Opera. From there,walk 2 blocks to Have-Caumartin Metro stop (behind Opera building, bit west) from there 7 stops on Line "9" to Trocadero.

thanks for all of the options - which would be easiest/least hassle at about 9 am on a Wednesday? and, for my return trip, are these ways open on sunday morning?

If you want to do it without climbing down into the ground and back up, take the Roissybus to Opéra and then the N° 22 bus (direction Porte de St-Cloud) straight up to the Arc de Triomphe and down to Trocadéro.

The 22 stop is on Rue Glück, on the opposite side of the opera building from the Roissybus terminus. This connection is available every day. The 22 might be a little crowded at 9AM on a weekday, but it's a short ride.
